Please tell me all about an Alamo 'insider' rental please?

Hi there!

I am a diehard National Emerald Club renter. But the rates are just too high for me to go with National this time around.

I booked an Alamo Insider rental for our October trip.

Can someone please explain the process to me?

Do I go to a counter or a Kiosk?

How can I add a driver? Is it extra as a member of the Insider?

Then where are the Alamo cars? Do I get assigned a car or pick from the Midsize aisle?

Thank you so very much!! :goodvibes

This was SOO easy. I went to the Kiosk and entered some basic info. Out pops a receipt which you take to the car locations. Bring the receipt to an Alamo rep who tells you to pick any car in the aisle of your car type. Drive the car to the exit booth, show the second Alamo rep your receipt and you are own your way. Wicked easy.

Another way to check in is to go straight out to the booth in the Parking Garage - right by the cars. There is usually no-one in line out there and it keeps you from having to detour to the inside location. BUT, I have never used the inside Kiosk so I can't honestly say which is faster. Now that they have removed the Master Rental Agreement meaning our credit card information is no longer stored, it might take longer to check in at the booth.

Thank you for all your help. :goodvibes

Can someone please tell me when I can add a driver though. Should I/could I do that at the exit booth, outside right before I leave?

Thanks!

There should be a "Save Time" link on your reservation. You can add additional driver's info there ahead of time, and head straight out to the garage. Someone recently posted a written response from Alamo that spouses are automatic and you don't need to do anything (sorry I don't have the specific post handy) but I had already filled it out for my husband who will be arriving later and not with me at pick up. FWIW He is also an Alamo Insider's member.

BTW- I was also a loyal National renter and have used Alamo the last few times. It's practically the same scenario as National's Emerald Aisle...but for less $.

Thank you! I didn't know you could do that. I just added my friend that way but unfortunately, it says it's $9.99 a day!! wow! Nevermind that added expense. :(

From what I've read, even though you are a member and this is a benefit, some codes will remove the free additional driver. If it's important to you, ask at the counter, they should be able to add the driver at no cost. Of course YMMV.

Not sure what's up. I added all the additional driver info (not a spouse or immediate family member) and it said it would be $9.99 a day BUT to the right, the total was $0.00 and adding them did not change my grand total. :confused3

The info on a second driver said they were free if they were a spouse or immediate family member with the same address. Oh well.

Not sure if I should leave it or take it out and try at the booth.

But thank you for your help. :goodvibes

At Alamo if you are an insider and use the insider rate code than it includes one additional driver at no cost. This is the same if you book a car through Costco or BJ's. Anyone is free to use the Kiosks/Online Check-In, but as an insider member your "Driver Profile" is pre-built, thus, speeding the process along. Also as an insider member you are given 'Best Rate' + plus discounts if available. Other than that the best way to look at Insider's is as a "Customer Discount Program". Rather than a Loyalty program.

I'm confused. Are you saying that I won't be charged then? I used the BJs code as an Insider....my friend is an Insider too.

Basically if you use a BJ's rate code (found on the coupons) or the Insiders code, on your confirmation it should show 1 Additional Driver(s) Included
It really only matters if the Rate Code/ID includes the additional driver and states it on you Itinerary
