Hello! I've been to epcot many times and I don't think I've ever been on Maelstrom! :rolleyes1

What is it like? What happens that is 'thrilling' as I've seen some people mention. Are there any pictures on the internet? Thanks!

It's a very cool little flume ride, definitely very "Disney". It's very short, but it has some very cool elements that add to the thrills. There's no severe drops or anything like that, though.

Maelstrom is "can't miss" for my family but I have absolutely NO IDEA why! I don't think there's anything particularly thrilling about it. At some point in the ride you go down a small drop like Pirates of the Carribean and might possibly get a few drops of water on you. Otherwise it's all vikings and trolls and is a fairly short ride. It doesn't scare my scaredy-cat DD5. It's worth riding if there's no wait. The worst part of it is there's a Norway movie at the end and even if you walk right through the theater and skip watching the movie, you still have to wait several minutes outside the theater after you get off your boat for the next show to start.

I know most people skip the movie, I do after seeing it about 10 times, but it is nice and worth seeing once! :sunny:

This particular ride chicken needs to work up some courage, :lmao: but I can do it. The short drop (unless it has changed in the 5 years since our last visit) is backwards. Other than that, it's a good ride.

We just rode this last week, my first time, and if I remember correctly you do go backwards and stop, then it turns and you go forward. The short drop was going forward. We were also able to skip the movie by walking fast thru the theater and straight out the door on the other side. My DH and DS had this down to a science :)

aaah now i see! Thank you! I'll definately give it a whirl this september!

Yes, its a very fun ride! It's similar to POTC, drop wise. The vikings and other characters on the ride aren't very high tech, but still good. You go backwards and forwards down small drops, and the trolls are amusing. We have skipped the movie on recent trips, but I would recommend seeing it if it's your first time on the ride. It's a very good movie.

My DD6 princess: loves this ride too! :thumbsup2 and has since she was about 4. She especially likes the part where you go backwards and it looks like you're going to go over the waterfall. She thinks it's very funny when the tree says "disappear, disappear!" I do agree that it's not worth a really long wait, but as it is one of the only 2 rides at WS, most kids seem to enjoy it. :thumbsup2

I believe this is a Fast Pass ride!!

there was athread awhile back concerning the movie - I love watching the movie... however, the ride ends, if the doors are open to the movie, its ok, but, if you are the first boat to watch the doors close, thatis a HUGE drag, then you sit thru the whole movie time wise, because you cant see it, then they let you in, and you have to wait for a few more boats to empty, more time, then you sit thru the movie...

So I say its a must do, but I sure would like to time it better!!
