I'm thinking of going for lunch or dinner with my boyfriend, his daughter (4), my daughter (9), and my son (5). Wondering what the character interaction is like, if the food or atmosphere would be better for either lunch or dinner? My daughter will be celebrating her birthday, wonder if characters would sing to her?

Any pics, comments, review would be appreciated!!!:goodvibes

We did breakfast several years ago. Loved it. Great character interaction. Each princess took time with my daughter & DH, but that is a different story. I didn't know they had character interactions other than breakfast though.

Let me preface by saying we have a DS and we took him to Akershus because my DH and I really liked the food. It was a chance to eat some varied styles of fish, chicken, or beef. That being said, this place has gone from being a "must do" to a "maybe we will do" next time. Mostly because the last time we went for dinner the food was just okay. My DH food was super salty. My DS meal of Mickey ravioli was almost had no salt and was bland.

The princess interaction has always been great at this location even for a DS. I have a friend with a DD who loves Ariel and she was really excited to see Ariel as a human instead of as a mermaid. All the princesses do a great job engaging the children.

I like the cold buffet but some people do not enjoy it because it leans towards seafood and salad (shrimp cocktail, herring, specialty salads--potato and macaroni).

Family style desserts are always yummy. We can never finish them because we have eaten so much of the cold buffet and entrees.

Hope that helps with your decision. ;)

Would you go there for breakfast?

Would you go there for breakfast?

We did breakfast there last year and I think it is a good, solid breakfast choice for an EPCOT day. There were fruits and pastries at the buffet and then they brought out family style eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and biscuits. The princesses were all great and although they came through fairly quickly, we didn't feel rushed like we did by the characters at Chef Mickey's.

We had breakfast there in December and really enjoyed it - we go to Akershus every time and Dh and I actually like the food (dh loves to drink some Aquavit with dinner) - it's our go-to princess meal. The breakfast was traditional and we got seconds on the family-style portion. I loved the cheesy potatoes! Character interaction is good and they seem to move things along pretty well. Not sure about birthday though - I don't remember them singing happy birthday at any meal we went to.

We have recently done both lunch and breakfast. Loved both. For us, breakfast buffet was more than enough by itself. We prefer the fruit, cheese, yogurt, granola, fish and the like for breakfast. Next time we will tell them to hold the eggs and bacon (plus every other restaurant has these).

For lunch we did the entrées. Again, nice buffet.

Princesses seem to do a good job with the families with kids, as everyone is in smiles. The princesses alternate sides of the restaurant. While you are finishing your meal, they are entertaining the other side of the restaurant, so you have some time to complete.

It is one of our top five or ten.

I doubt that the princesses would sing because the characters are usually pretty good about not being at the same table at the same time and they rarely pose for pictures together in the restaurants. I also don't remember hearing anyone sing at any of our meals but I did see quite a few celebrate cupcakes floating around for birthdays.

For those of you who have gone to breakfast, do they have the cheeses and salmon for the cold buffet?

My DH and I love Akershus even though we don't have any children. The princesses are always very nice to us and we actually love the food. We go for dinner, we don't like big lunches or breakfasts.

Is there any reason why I would be disappointed with going to breakfast instead of lunch or dinner?
I feel like I'm not using my DP TS credits well by doing a breakfast. I have dinner ADRs at Chefs de France that day, and it is a "must do" for me to eat lunch at the CS in Morroco. I could manage to stuff a plate from Morroco in my face somehow through out the day though, if I had to!:rotfl:

Been there twice for dinner. Character interaction was great both times plus you get a great keepsake picture with one of the Princesses for free. Food ranged from ok to poor. Desserts were great. We are skipping it on our next trip since we had done it twice. If the food was better I would go back again without hesitation as my daughter loves the princesses. If you have never been there I would recommend going for the experience and taking your chances with the food.

Not to hijack the thread, but we have a 10:40 ressie, will they switch to lunch while we are there or will it be breakfast the entire time? Anyone else do a late breakfast like this?
TIA!

Sorry OP to hijack! :goodvibes

Just had dinner there in January and it was good. As PP said, you get a picture for free - yes, free at Disney, LOL. Great interaction and I had the pork chop and it was very good. The kids meal though - the pizza looked yuck. My girls loved it.

Would you go there for breakfast?

Only every time we go down there with our DDs. Fantastic character interaction, in general, and I enjoy the variety of food they put out. Then again, anything that starts with cheese and potatoes is okay in my book.

For those of you who have gone to breakfast, do they have the cheeses and salmon for the cold buffet?

Yes, at least for the past 3 years running.

. . . character interaction at Akershus is better than CRT
. . . the kids are usually pleased

My daughter will be celebrating her birthday, wonder if characters would sing to her?
. . . no
. . . there are too many "special" days for all of them to be acknowledged
. . . especially birthdays
. . . they do a mass birthday wish
. . . however, *sometimes* the princess will say Happy Birthday
. . . IF they see the birthday button

NOTE: For food, alone, Akershus is grossly overpriced.
However, as with most character meals, you are paying for
the characters, and possibly atmosphere, but not the food.
Food is ample and tasty, but quality only average. However,
the princes interaction is typically a lot better than at the Castle.

We felt like this was such a great dinner on DDP! I had the salmon and DH had the pork chop, both were delish. I loved the cold bar, tried some of everything, but DH just got a small salad. We were celebrating DD's 2nd birthday and the waitress brought a cupcake for her and a card signed by all the princesses.
The princess interaction was great, and DD got to do the princess processional holding Ariel's hand - probably b/c she was so young, but the pics are so precious! It would be very hard for us to swallow paying OOP pocket here, but our dinner this night paid for the DDP plan for that whole day (we were on free dining, but I was trying to figure out if we would do the DDP next time, so were keeping track of our costs.)

I had dinner at Akershaus, everything was very good. The characters come around to all the tables one at a time, interacting and posing for photos (I at 21 was the youngest at my table). We had Jasmine, Alice, Cinderella, Ariel, and Aurora was at the entrance. A photopass photographer will take your picture with her, and you get a print of your photo at the end of the meal.

sorry i didn't take any pics of food--silly me!
