would you choose. I am trying to show my friend Disney for the first time and I am REALLY worried about the crowds for Columbus Day week. This trip is for 2005.
If we choose Columbus Day week we save a vacation day and my DD will only miss 4 days of 1st grade instead of 5 but the crowds could really slow us down.
If we go the last full week of Oct. then we use the extra day vacation and 5 days out of school but we can see more with less crowds.
I am afraid they will hate Disney if they stand in line long! What do I do?

Go for the less crowded time. It's worth using a vacation day, don't you think? And your dd missing 5 days instead of 4, well that's not a big difference anyway, especially in kindergarten.

Good luck! :)

I goofed Liznboys. She will be in 1st grade next year. Would you still say the same thing?

Yeah, actually I would say the same thing. I think family vacations are very important, well worth missing school for. :):):)

Go for the less crowed time. That is the week we usually go and it is always nice. Don't worry about the extra days, 1 wont make a difference!!

Have fun!!:sunny:

Won't that last week in Oct. be busier because of Halloween and MNSSP?

It depends on how your child is doing in school, and how your kid's teacher/school feels about it. But I picked taking the extra day out of school and going for a less crowded time.

I was pulled for a full week out of 2nd grade for my first trip 20 years ago. I didn't miss a beat, did all my assignments on the trip every night after the parks and before I could go to the arcade with my brothers. The teacher even had me do a special show and tell about my trip when I got back!

You'll have so much more fun by being relaxed and not going crazy because of crowds and long lines. I'm sure this is an expensive trip, so protect your investment by making the most of it!

I voted early October because I think the end of October is Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and I think it would be more crowded then. BUT--if you are taking your first grade daughter she might really enjoy Halloween at the Magic Kingdom!

I've been there Columbus Week, last year as a matter of fact. We went to MNSSHP then, too. It was very busy, much busier than the end of the month, due not only to the holiday, but also some state had just begun a new Fall Break that week in 2003 and there were lots of kids there all week. We were expecting the 3 day weekend to be busy, but not the whole week! It was managable, but not what I wanted my in-laws to experience for their first trip to WDW. I would definetly take the kids out of grade school for any trip to WDW. Jr. High and High School I think twice about, but grade school is different.

Either would be OK, but end of the month would be better.

Thanks guys. I am nervous about telling the school she will be out though I know she is a great little student. Way beyond her years! (Sometimes to my dismay)! I think I will try to change the trip to the last week in Oct. I want my friends to have the best itme possible!

Well, you already know my opinion!;) but I wanted to say for others who don't know my opinion that last week in October, at least in 2002 was an AMAZING week as far as weather and crowds go.

MNSSHP does NOT make a difference as it's running ALL of October, not just the last week!

And there is also the Food and Wine Festival but that, too, is running all month and I think part of November.

Last week in October is GREAT!:teeth:
