If you have a bit to spare, please send me just a little Pixie Dust this weekend. I have my second student teaching evaluation this Tuesday.

Has anyone else in this position find these to be very mentally draining? I have had one already and I was beat after it was over. I guess I was just not ready for someone to pick apart every word I said and every move I made. It really knocks the self esteem. I have been told countless times that if a person gets less than an A in student teaching, we can kiss any chance of a job good by. No pressure here!!! ;) ;) I can feel myself being tense already and it is only Friday night!!

Thanks for listening!

Good luck Karen. I went through this 10 years ago and it exhausted me but it is worth it - still teaching! Now I am at the stage of helping student teachers - our most recent one had her "crit" last Wed and I sat with her throught the debriefing - I learnt a lot.

Good luck and pixie dust!! Now you're scaring me! Do I really want to be a teacher?

Good luck, Karen. I have no doubt that you will do fine. I will keep you in my thoughts, Tuesday.

Awww Karen. :( I had to drop out of school last semester due to health problems. Within two months I had to have 2 surgeries, so now instead of student teaching and graduating together, I'm a year behind you.

I don't envy you. I imagine it's very stressful. I wouldn't believe the A thing so much, I think it's more about what you have in your portfolio and how you interview more than anything.

I wish you lots and lots of luck and I'm sure you'll do great. I have yet to hear one teacher say they enjoyed student teaching and wish they could do it again. ;) :p

Good luck and best of wishes! :)

Oh Pin Wizard....yes you do still want to become a teacher!!! I have been so lucky to have experienced some of those real teaching moments while student teaching. I don't quite know how to describe them, but you will know when it happens and that makes it worth every minute!!! It is just these darn evaluations from the university supervisor that gets me worked up. I guess I have to keep saying that I have one down, one on Tuesday, and only 2 more to go after that!!! Plus, my cooperating teacher is wonderful and gives me so much support!!!!

Thanks for your support everyone! I keep thinking to myself, I am forty something years old, why is this bothering me so much. I try to take a deep breath and just be myself!!!!

Maybe I should hum When You Wish Upon A Star that morning! ;) ;)

Karen, best of luck to you!!! I hope that it goes well for you on Tuesday :) Sending tons of PD your way :)

As a former high school teacher (who also used to hire) and currently on the university side of things, don't worry so much about the "A". From the hiring standpoint, it is the letters of recommendations from the field supervisor and the cooperating teacher that are the ticket. That is where the information truly is. The field supervisor should be a source of support, not criticism - that supervisor wants you to succeeed too - the stress is that you only see that person 4 times so you feel as though everything depends on those visits - it doesn't! Everyday in the classroom is an adventure, with many things going well and other things not going as you thought they would - and all educators know that is the way it goes on a daily basis. You'll be fine -good luck! Sounds like you have a terrific cooperating teacher - that makes a world of difference! :p

Soon Student Teaching will be but fodder for nightmares. :) I know it is for me. ;)

((Hugs)):D I've been there myself. It's been almost 10 years since my student teaching and I remember just about every second of it. It was very stressful. I lost 15 pounds in those 3 and a half months simply because I barely had time to eat! I don't think we received a letter grade for student teaching. It was pass/fail. I know they have made some major changes in teacher training so I'm sure it's even more stressful now. You'll do fine. It will be over soon and you'll be on your way.:D

Good Luck!

I will be in your position this time next year....I'm already nervous!;)

You'll do great, don't worry!:)

Good luck Karen!! I'm sure you'll do just fine!! :) :) :)

Let us know how it goes!! :) :) :)

You'll do fine! Student teaching is full of stress but once you are through it you can look back and laugh. Take what they say with a grain of salt. Look at the coments objectively and learn from them. That's what it's all about.

It's exciting to hear you talk about those "moments" of teaching that makes it all worth while. They can repair a bruised self esteem every time.

Don't worry to much about the A. Letters of reference from your cooperating teachers will cary a lot of weight. After all they saw you everyday rather than on a few occasions.

Good Luck!
