Please say a prayer ~ My co-workers 12 yr old DS died today

My co-worker's DS was a normal healthy kid star Baseball player , 12 yrs old, a few months ago he got mono. It was initially misdiagnosed. He recovered from the mono but something went wrong. He was always tired. Which you could attribute to the mono and recovery. But friend takes him to the Doctor and finds out his body never stopped fighting the mono after he got well so it started attacking his healthy body. Its a rare form of a lyphoma. Very rare cancer and very deadly. The hospital had 8 other cases in all 8 cases the kids died. Well today Matthew passed away. Please pray for this family. They are devastated. To the last minute my friend was grabbing doctors and asking them to try this and try that. Matthew is going to beat this. I'm soo sick over this. This family is going to need a lot of prayers and support.

I live near NYC. The hospital he was in is a leading childrens hospital. And its not 8 cases in the last month. The doctors treating him told his parents they have seen 8 cases and none survived. Not unusual for a huge busy Childrens Hospital. So I don't get the surprize. I also believe they were also preparing my friend for the seriousness.

OMG THIS IS A TRUE STORY...
When I was 9, I got mono. After I was better, I started to get very sick again. My white blood count was at ZERO. They realized it when I got pink eye and the next day my whole face was swollen. Anyway, this was around 1984 or so. They were going to do a spinal tap but then a med student remembered hearing about some rare problem with kids can get after mono. He went back to the medical journals and found it. They treated me (I was already hospitalized) with a super high dose of some antibiotic. The next day my white count was at 2. I recovered but was at that time only the 3rd person in the US to have this!
It scares me reading about this boy and the other kids that they may have this! I would think after all these years, it would be a known thing??
My heart goes out to them. Really, I am not making this up. It just sounds so similar!
