OK so i know that if you want to pay for your 8 year old to be an adult on the meal plan you can but what about a 2 year old you want to get a child meal plan?

Staying dvc me dh dsis dd6 ds2 in a studio I know as long as he is under 3 we can have him in the room but would like to also have the meal plan for him can we do this?

Also when not staying dvc if you change meal plan from child to adult you need to buy adult tix for parks but with dvc you don't need to buy park tix so not sure how this works.

Why do you want a meal plan for him?

As long as he is under three there is no charge for him at any buffet or all-you-can-eat (up to and including CRT).

For any other meal if you order something for him you will have to pay for it. Disney expects that you will allow him to eat from your plate. The table service locations will give you plates, etc at no charge, and most will actually not charge for beverages.

Actually you should take advantage of this time because your 2 yo gets to eat free in all buffets with your plan. So you can go to Chef Mickey, Tusker House, 1900 Park Fare etc... all free. You can still order from the child menu on non-buffet restaurant from time to time from paying cash. It will cost a lot less than getting a DDP for your 2 yo.

We are getting the qs meal plan and he is a piçky eater so would like it if we don't have to share with him becàue it will limit what we can choose

What if you just take food into the parks for him? You are allowed to do that and could easily get some groceries delivered. If you are set on adding him I'm sure a short call to MS would take care of it.

If you change his age to 3 to get the meal plan, you will run into occupancy issues in a studio. I believe the VGF studios allow 5 but all others just 4 plus one under 3. I don't believe there is any way to do what you are asking unless you move to a 1 bdrm.

Why not just pay OOP for the food that you purchase for him as the QS locations when he doesn't want to eat what you've ordered?

While probably not applicable in this situation, one of the reasons people do this is to use the credits for others.

So, is he under three for lodging and at least three for the dining plan? You can't have it both ways. You cannot have five people on the dining plan in a studio. You can only have four. So you either pay more/use more points for a one bedroom that sleeps five or you pay for his food OOP.

You are correct about the park tickets. DVC members purchasing the dining plan are not required to purchase park admission as well.

Just buy his meals OOP kids meals are. 4.99 anyway and they don't get a extra drink and desert like adults.

We just came back from a vacation with our 4 and 2 year old. I say forget about the meal plan for the 2 year old. There are so many good buffets and they do not care if you make a plate for him separate from everyone else. Also, a lot of sit down places will give him a plate for free of anything off the kid's meal- Cinderella's Royal Table did this for us and even gave him a free desert! Disney is so easy going with kids under three it is fine- we are actually thinking about going back before my youngest turns three b/c we save so much money that way:)

Just as an FYI you really aren't saving ANY money with the Quick Service plan- it's just some people like to spend the money up front instead of there. The plan restricts you so much too.

If you really wanted a meal plan consider upgrading to the next level and keeping the 2 year old out. Like I said earlier- with table services he could most likely eat anything he wants for free. Getting the next step up for three people may not be much different in price than getting the quick service for four people.

I agree with the others here. QS plan is not worth it.
You will also get sick of eating hot dogs and hamburger fast food for every meal after a few days. You should really consider TS.

It's very difficult to save any money on the QS plan for adults without incorporating the few high cost options into the plan such as WPE, Pepper Market, Combo meals at the few places that have them. Due to the risk I believe one needs to save around 20% and/or have around a 20% added value using the DP to make it worth the risk. There really aren't many areas to add value at QS locations compared to TS options. For example, one might get a smoothie as a drink at a TS but the only place that might happen with the QS plan is PM and that's unlikely the last few years it seems. The basic plan is a little better but not much. The DDP is where there is opportunity but one has to work at it even then. I'd say that a large % of people that actually truly save money on the plans are doing so with multiple villas and targeting their audience by grouping the eaters vs non eaters. Or else they're actually outside the rules in some way or another.

I agree with everyone else. This next trip is my daughters last "freebie" trip so we are purposely doing buffets and family style meals so she can eat free, anything else and we will just order a kids meal. I've crunched the numbers on dining plans before and we save so much money paying oop, we simply won't eat as much as the plan offers so we would eat because we have to or waste.

Aything you order for your two year old, you will probably have to pay for it. So you won't want to order with the idea that is is all free.

I have a 2 year old. I wouldnt worry about the dining plan, especially with dvc. You wont save any money and even if you would save it cant be much. As others have said the buffets are free and that is where a lot of the value for kids on the dining plan. Otherwise kids meals dont cost too much. And even in a studio we have breakfast in the room, and keep snacks and drinks.
