Stormalong Bay is "partially" under rehab during your stay? WE are splitting our stay and spending 3 nights at YBC JUST FOR THE POOL. My 10yo DD has begged every trip to stay there and I told her when her sister is old enough to also enjoy it. Now I find out the "middle section" will be in rehab. I have been told by others on the DVC board that is where the lazy river is. We have never been to YBC and will be coming from AKL. So for those of you who have stayed at YBC would you go or would you jusyt stay at AKL and not go through the hassle of switching.

TIA,
Sue

PS Another possiblity is switching to the Poly.

If I could afford to stay there, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Not so much for SAB, although that's nice, and if it was completely closed I'd think twice, but mostly for the stroll to Epcot and the boat to MGM. Location, location, location.

Kungaloosh!
Morticia.

There is so much to do at SAB, that even if part of it is closed, there will be a lot to enjoy. I wouldn't change your plans based on the current rehab plans.

honestly,....no I wouldn't. If you are staying there mainly just for the pool, I would wait until another trip to stay there (if you plan on going to WDW again). I stayed there this summer and i LOVED SAB, and my favorite part was the lazy river. I think that even if you go and have a good time in the rest of the pool you would feel jipped because you never got to experience the closed part. At least that's how I would feel if it were me.

That is my biggest fear that the girls feel "jipped." I had that once when we stayed at the GF and it made for a less then magical stay. I also worry about being on a "construction" site, I really hate this...I feel like we loose either way.

Is the "bubbling" part of SAB NOT in the "center" section? Would it really only be the lazy river???

Thanks Again!
Sue

The time I stayed at YAC it was an upgrade. We were originally booked into CB and a few days before the trip were offered an upgrade at virtually no extra cost - so I took it after reading about Storm Along Bay. Truthfully, I wouldn't stay at the YAC if part of the Bay were under renovation - especially the lazy river - that was a very best part of the Bay as far as I was concerned.

I agree with Morticia. The location of YC/BC is a big benefit. I think it also depends on whether you will ever get the chance to stay there again. What does your son say about staying there while it's partlly being rehabbed?

I would say yes - but you said one of the main reasons for staying is the pool. I think I would wait until the next trip.
The next best pool is at the Poly. IMHO.

Only you can answer that question. There are a lot of reasons to stay at the YBC but if you have booked it strictly for the pool then I can't see how you wouldn't be disappointed.

We are going to be there during the renovations and I'm not worried about it but the pool was just one part of why we choose this resort.

If your reason for staying there is SAB, I would wait and stay there another time.

I'll have to agree with alot of folks... I would stay there... The location alone makes it a great place to stay..SAB is just a GREAT!! perk

Nope. If you are staying primarily for SAB, then you'll definitely miss out. I'd wait until another trip when everything will be open (and refurbished).

For me, personally,I am thrilled with the location, etc. For my DDs the only thing that matters there is SAB! I am trying to keep the peace. My 7yo LOVES AKL and my 10 YO dream is YBC. I did tell the girls about the rehab,my 10 yo had tears in her eyes and her sister was doing the "I get to stay at AKL longer" happy dance around the house, lol! Talk about rubbing it in.

I am leaning to the "oh now we have another reason to go back" decision. I guess a family pow wow is in order.

For who asked www.wdwig.com has GREAT pic of SAB.

Just curious why so many think the "lazy river" is the best.

I have to say the kiddie slide looks right up my 2yos allly. Yep one more female to take into consideration..Thank god she can't voice an opinion yet:p !!

during our yearly 3 week visit to WDW, we usually spend a few days at the YC just so that we can use SAB (we usually spend the three weekends at the YC.....that way we use SAB on saturdays when i don't really like going into the parks)...
if SAB weren't available we wouldn't stay at the YC....
and given that our very favorite part of SAB is the lazy river, that would be a definite no....

another thing i don't like about the YC, there's no food court......while it's a beautiful hotel with wonderful proximity to epcot and MGM, the lack of a food court is bothersome to us (even the GF has a food court).....though we always stay concierge level at all the hotels, we also like the availability of a food court (GF, WL and AKL all have one....)...

anyway...to answer your question...no....if SAB was in renovations, we would not stay at the YC.....

i just saw your second question asking people why they like the lazy river best and i got to thinking about it...

it's really an age question....it may well be that your kids would never go into the lazy river at all...
we started going to the YC when my kids were about 10 and 13....my son liked the slide then (when he was 10)........
since he's gotten older (he's now 17) he no longer cares for the slide or the rest of the pool but adores the lazy river (same as us)...
but i suspect the lazy river is more an older kid/adult thing....
your little one wouldn't really be able to go in it anyway (the water is over my head in many parts of it).....and your 10 year old will probably prefer the main pool, with the slide and all the other stuff there (whirlpool sort of thing, and bubbling water and the other things there)..

so i've changed my vote given that you have very small children...

you should go to the YC.....the part of SAB that is open is what they would most enjoy anyway (as i mentioned above, the lazy river is for big kids and adults....the water is VERY deep.....way over my head and i'm 5' 4" tall)....

I concur - stay @ YC! Your 7 & 10 yo's will spend their time on the awesome slide & in the "sinking sand" area, or in the bubbling jets or whirlpool - they're all basically in the same section. The little kids area is all the way on the other side of the lazy river, so the adults will have to split up to watch the kids, thus no time for the lazy river... oh, the life of a parent!;) Luckily, SAB has great, relaxing hot tubs, too. It's an excellent resort & Beaches & Cream is a great family place to eat. The rooms are nice & big, with large balconies, & the location ROCKS! Have some fun on the BW while you're there, too!:D

Alright , My DH finally read this thread and the last 2 post have changed our mines:D . We are going to stick with staying at YBC. Part of my problem is ths trip is also for my Dh's 40th and I am realizing no mater how hard you try it will never be perfect. .

I think what people have posted will apply to us. The "big DDs" will be at the sllide and my 2yo will never leave the kiddie slide. We had her at a water park in the Dells this summer and she had the most fun of us all.

Thanks!!

How do you know which parts are going to be out of commission when?

Thanks!!

There was a thread on the DVC board. If I find it I will try to bump it up.

When I talked to the GM I was told the kiddie section was going down first but should be ready by Thanksgiving.
