first of all, thanks for taking the time to read a "stroller thread"!!

i have done an exhaustive search on the net :surfweb: and even searched all local stores yesterday :drive: & i couldn't find what i was looking for :sad2: , so i figured i would ask for all of your expert advice :thumbsup2 !!!

here is my situation.....my oldest ds (7) is disabled and we are looking for a stroller for him. he has down syndrome so he can walk, but likes to ride in his stroller. he weighs about 54 pounds and is reaching the max weight of the maclaren triumph that we use for him. i am thinking of getting either the maclaren techno xlr because it has a limit of 65 pounds or (for about the same price) getting a twin triumph with a limit of 110 pounds. i have two smaller kids as well, so we could use the twin stroller (him with one of the lighter kids).

i have not been able to find these strollers in a store, so it is making it very difficult to decide which one he would fit into best.

sorry this is a little long, but i was wondering if anyone has either one of these strollers and can say how well bigger kids fit into them. or does anyone know what stores may carry these? i really thought my babies r us store would have them, but they didn't  .

thanks so much for your help! :flower3:

I think you would be much more likely to find those strollers at more of a baby specialty/high end baby stores. Is there a Right Start in your area? They carry more of the high end strollers.

If you are looking for something to use just at Disney, have you thought about the rental? I think it would likely be a good fit for him.

thanks for the reply! i searched for a right start and of course the one store in nj is closed. i will keep on searching.

we did try to rent a stroller on our last trip in february and it just didn't work for us. our kids are 2, 4 & 7 and we found out the hard way  that we really need a stroller outside of the park too!

I do not know of any BRU that has either of the strollers who are looking at I've seen.

My question would be how often woudl you use the double stroller outside of a Disney trip?

If not much I'd get the techno for your DS. Maclaren has so many strolelrs and they have strollers for special needs you can purchase too. I'd be tempted to look at those if I were you.

So many places online have free shipping but not retunr shipping so I see your worries. From a mom who bought and pushed 3 strollers around the house and at work for a week when I bought my chicco I understand (notice I then had to still buy a Quest becaue DS is a heavy boy.:) )

Not sure I helped but Good Luck

Try looking for a jogging stroller, I have found on my recent searches MOST jogging strollers hold WAY more than reg. strollers.:thumbsup2

I haven't looked at the ones you've mentioned, but I'm looking for a double stroller right now, too. One thing I noticed is that in "large" print it often has the max total weight, but there is usually a max weight for an individual, as well in the finer print. So, just because the total weight is 110 doesn't necessarily mean 90 of it can be from one child, for example. Might not be a problem with the Twin Triumph, but I didn't want you to buy one and then find out when you get home. If you can't find that info on-line, you can e-mail the manufacturer. Good luck! It's definitely hard finding strollers for bigger kids...

Oh - e-mailing the manufacturer they may also be able to give you stores in your area that stock those strollers for you to go look!

Maclaren actually makes a special needs stroller. It's pricey, but maybe your insurance company would kick in a little?

For those of you looking for a high weight limit double, the Mountain Buggy Urban Double holds 120 pounds and it pushes just as good with a 90# and 30# passenger as it does with two 40# passengers. Again, it's pricey, but used models are widely available.

check through craigslist listings either locally or even in other cities. If you place a wanted ad in babies/kids looking for the stroller you want, you may get a response.

If you find one listed in another city, you could possibly make arrangements to have it shipped to you. I find most of the moms selling items on craigslist (strollers etc) are pretty honest; that is my experience at least.

Another option would be through ebay.

Good luck, hope you find what you need

Have you looked in your local Target? Because they carry both of the strollers you are considering. I remembered your post when I was there the other day and our Target had both. Maybe call up and ask your nearest store to see if they have them there on display.;)
