Hello!

You would think that a grown woman could chose her own hotel, but apparently not! ;) Never been great at making decisions, so I'm asking for your help!!

We are planning on re-booking our Christmas trip this November after the snow cancelled ours last year. It will be me, MIL and DD (5). :santa:

Choices are Sequoia Lodge only £366 for 2 nights standard room.

Or Hotel New York £462 for 2 nights standard room.

I could get the SL, or SL with lake view, or standard room + 1 character breakfast using my airmiles which would be good.

I would have to put some extra cash towards Hotel New York, about £100.

So is the closeness of HNY, the hot breakfast items and the larger rooms worth the extra?

Or, is the cosy Christmassyness of SL the winner this time?

:confused3

Please help, I need a new ticker!!!

:thanks:

This isn't going to be much help, because I am struggling to choose between the two as well.

If I was in your shoes with only an extra £100 cash to put to it - I would definitely go with the New York.

We were in Sequoia last winter, and as everyone knows last winter was atrociously cold. I'm the sort of person who normally goes without a jacket or coat throughout winter, but I was freezing at Disney and the extra five minute walk with the wind cutting your face felt like an expedition. I would have happily paid at least £100 to upgrade there and then.

Having said that, the extreme cold made the Sequoia seem so welcoming and cosy, especially that fire (when you could fight your way close to it).

We could have taken the bus, I suppose, but it seems such a waste to be onsite and still have to wait for transport.

The hot breakfast also feels more 'essential' in winter - it kind of sets you up for the day. In summer, for me, it wouldn't be a factor.

Our pricing between the two is closer to £300 of difference and I'm still seriously considering going for the New York (as a special Xmas treat ;)). May still end up going to Sequoia (with everything crossed for a less severe winter). Will be keeping an eye for your decision, just in case your tipping point would help me too :goodvibes.

I've voted for The New York. We've never stayed there, but have stayed at the Sequoia. As much as I like the SL, the hot breakfast at the NY and being "Slghtly" closer to the parks, is why I'd have a stay there.

Happy deciding :)

I voted foe HNY because of the hot breakfasts. Having been in DLP the past 2 winters I know myself and my would love a hot breakfast to set us up for the day!

So many replies already, thank you so much!!

We're hoping to go 21st November Carrie Cat.

SL got my vote! On our Hotel Bar Cocktails Expedition its seemed the most Christmassy. Plus the new rooms look fab. Happy planning Jenny!

Having just come back from HNY I would stay there, overall it's a great hotel with excellent service.

Room was okay, probably not deluxe and hot items at breakfast very average - my only 2 minor criticisms.

Has to be the Sequoia, I had Christmas there last year and I would never go to another hotel that time again!!!! Not only is it warm with the raging log fire, it's got the best pool too, imagine an evening after a swim sitting my the fire drinking hot chocolate.....

I also thinks it's more Christmassy, the wood surroundings and the natural furniture make it easy for me to make that choice. The saved money could be used towards a Cafe Mickey Breakfast (we are doing that by staying in the Cheyenne) and and a few more warm drinks in the park. A lake view room is lovely, but not all give a view of the Castle though we were lucky, we just booked standard and were given a brilliant view of the Castle at night and could see them testing out the light displays!

It's a difficult one as i know you love the HNY as does Isabelle and like we talked about the other day the SL is sooo "christmassy", which do you think MIL would like? as I've not stayed in either i'm not much help. Are you worried about the extra walk back to the hotel?

Sorry not much help :rolleyes1 but thought I would throw those questions in

Nice to see the cancellation has not put you off trying for another Christmas trip.

It was lovely when we eventually did get there, thanks to you we didn't lose all our money for the cancelled trip.

I voted for the New York, never stayed at Sl but it looks nice as well, we ended up at DLH in December and it was lovely to be close to the park but we had originally booked for the Cheyenne.

Sure you will have a great time at either hotel and it will be really magical and Christmasy with just the fake snow (fingers crossed)

Thanks Wendy! Yes, hopefully just the fake snow this time!! :thumbsup2

You're right Karen, HNY is DD's favourite - mainly because Mickey Mouse was there to greet her when we arrived this year!!

If I'm honest, I think MIL would prefer HNY too, and I do like it a lot, probably my favourite hotel that I've stayed in. (not had the pleasure of DLH yet!)

I have been talking to my friend to today who first of all said, pay extra for the nice hotel, then said, it's only a bed for the night, save your money for meals!!

I had nearly settled on HNY but then again the extra £100 would pay for a meal at Inventions!

:headache:

I'd go Sequoia Lodge, as much as I prefer HNY, SL just seems far more 'right' at that time of year. :goodvibes

Sooo, at the moment it's 60/40 in favour of Sequoia Lodge!

Could you guys help me out with one more thing? DD loves the HNY because she saw Mickey or Minnie every day in the hotel! :cloud9:

I'm sure when we stayed at SL there were signs saying there would be characters at certain times, but we never saw them  Can you shed any light on where they can be found, and even better, do any of you have photos I can show DD to prove that the characters are at SL too?!! :goodvibes

Thanks again for all your votes & comments! :thumbsup2

When we checked into SL last year Minnie actually came up to the desk as we were checking in and 'helped'. She gave us all big hugs. It all happened so suddenly none of us thought to take out the camera. :headache:

I know there is an area specific to meet characters and I recall seeing Pluto and Goofy on different mornings, however I'm struggling to recall where abouts in the hotel it is. I think it's near main reception.

:goodvibes

I'm known for my love of HNY but I've opted for SL because I was so blown away by the refurb in June. I think at Christmas it has the edge, and now with the refurb there is no real difference in room quality. £100 is still a lot of money and if the main difference is hot breakfast, it's not worth it.
I've quite surprised myself with this choice!! I love both hotels and you will have an amazing trip whichever you choose :goodvibes I'll start crossing fingers now that everything goes right this year
