Please help with inexpesive DC to donate to school...

I want to donate a digital camera to the art class to help the kids take pictures for the yearbook. There are so many out there and I just don't want to get an inexpensive piece of junk if you know what I mean.

I dont want to spend a lot because of the kids using it. They are only 7th and 8th graders.

So can you give me some tips on what would be a good camera and the price approximatly...thanks

I would say that you should set your price and then look at somewhere like Buydig.com to see what you can get. Then compare those on somewhere like http://www.dcresource.com/ or http://www.dpreview.com/.

I am looking to spend anywhere form $130-160 for the camera but want to know at that price range what is the best bang for my buck at that price.

I see many cameras at that price but some I'm sure are better than others. My camera is over $500 and it is perfect for me but cant afford to spend that much if kids will be using it.

Can you or anyone recomend a good camera at that price range?????

I bought my son a Fuji Finepix A800 for his first cheap digital camera. It's 8.1 MP and has a 3x zoom. It's on Amazon for $119. It took decent pictures for him. He had no complaints. I also bought him Duracell rechargeable AA batteries w/ a 15 minute quick charger. They work great. Rechargeable batteries last longer than regular batteries for digital cameras. His set came with 4 so he could carry a spare set everywhere he went.
The camera is very lightweight and seems almost like a toy (plastic body, etc.) He said if he squeezed it too hard he could probably break it. Of course he would have preferred I get him the Panasonic TZ3 like mine, but that one is about $319 at Costco. That is a really good camera for the price but more than what you are looking to spend. I think the A800 is about as good as it gets for a $120 camera. It ain't the greatest, but as I said, my son had no complaints and for the price I paid, neither did I. I bought it primarily for price (it was for a kid) and because it can use XD or SD memory cards and I had a bunch of XD cards that I no lobger use that he could put to use in this camera.

I have a dslr, but I also have a little Sony Cybershot w55 for when I don't feel like taking out the big dslr. I am not sure of the price in the US but I'm assuming that it will be cheaper than here. It takes good pictures and has a few options, but it is not complicated to use.
