Hi, I am connecting from China and have a long layover at Toronto Airport. How are the Marriott brand hotels in that area? I have marriott points I could use for the Courtyard, The Airport Marriott or the Residence Inn for a Free night. Mostly, how is the area? I will be a mom traveling alone with 3 kids. I will need to take a shuttle. If the area seems unsafe, I will just book the Sheraton in the airport instead. Thanks

I've been to that area many times for conventions!

It's a very industrial area that's pretty quiet. I've never felt unsafe being around there. The Marriott is very nice.

I wouldn't say the area is unsafe. (Nothing like the sketchy airport hotel I stayed at near Newark. As I went to check in, there were police behind the counter asking for the security tapes. :scared: )

But as YukiPhnx pointed out, the area is pretty industrial. It's not very walk-able.

The Courtyard Marriott seems to show good reviews and they have a free shuttle bus.

Getting to the sheridan is so easy from the Airport. If you want ease and a great hotel, I would pick the sheridan.

I have stayed at the Marriott as well and loved it. Funny thing I noticed the planes more there than at the Sheridan.

The area of the Marriott is not sketchy. I feel fine walking by myself in the area and have done so.

In the end it is all about what is easiest for you and the kids.

The Marriott is nice and nicer if you can get a room for free but it money was no object I'd stay at the Sheraton in terminal 3. There are two Sheratons at the airport but only one connected to the airport. I've stayed there before many times and it's really nice to be right in the airport. We do it everytime we have an early flight since it saves us so much time. I find the airport shuttles to be a pain. The area is industrial... it also seems to be the strip club district - there are so many strip clubs there! I'm guessing for lonely business men from out of town.

With 3 kids I would go for the Residence Inn, you get a suite and free breakfast, there are also a few restaurants across the road.

It's a long layover and you will no doubt all be tired -- I would just stay at the Sheraton at the airport.

That said, we have stayed at the Marriott and it was great. As a PP mentioned, the planes do cross overhead on their way to land.
