Friday I plan on purchasing a Digital Camera for our Upcoming Vegas trip. I don't want to spend over $500.00. That may be a cheap price, but that is the limit. So here are the questions:)

1. Which store would you chose, Target,Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears ect..

2.Is there a certain model\brand I should look for.

3.What features should I look for ect...

4. Will you please "HELP" me pleaseeee I have no clue which camera to purchase:( :o :(

:o Ok my begging is complete:o

For me personally, I would pick Circuit City. I have found they have great prices (and do a price match too) and a good selection! I also like the sales people there too... not near as pushy as what I find at Sears & Best Buy. That's just me and it might be a local/regional thing.

As to brand, I cannot say which is best. Zurg probably could but I just go check out which ones seem to have features I like. In general though you should to be able to get a great 3.3 or so MP camera with a good optical zoom for just under $500.

Thanks for the vote of confidence but there is no best one but there is one that best fits you needs. A good first step it to learn about digital cameras a little and your Evil Emperor knows just where to start. Click here

Think about your picture taking:
Are you a manual control freak who controls depth of field with f-stops or a point shoot and forget it type?
Are you going to make big prints for the walls or just posting pictures on web pages?
Are you willing to carry a big camera for big features or just want to slip one in your pocket?
How many pictures do you take on a trip, 10s 50s 100s 1000s?
Take a lot of pictures in the dark? then an AF illuminator is a big plus.

Wow Zurg soo many questions:o :D ;)

1.Ok I'm the"point shoot and forget it type"

2.I definitely want to take pictures of the Pirate Battle at Treasure Island (thats where we're staying)

3. I want one that will slip in my pocket or waistpurse

4.I take about 400 pictures:o

5. I love to take pictures at night of everything on the strip
(except for the porn magazine pushers) they make me sick

Thanks and waiting anxiously for your reply:D

After doing a lot of research and what all, and some emails from our Zurg (thanks again Zurg) I opted for the Canon PowerShot S30 and have been very satisfied with it. It suits my needs, is easy to use, small in size and didn't take a rocket scientist to teach me to use it the first time.

I agree with Zurg, things to look for are what you want to use it for, what price you can/want to pay and what you will be doing with the pictures after.

Just my humble opinion, but for me, I think I chose the right camera.

I would also either go with the Canon PowerShot, or the camera I have now, the Nikon CoolPix 775 (which is about as small as they come). :)

Avoid Best Buy at all costs, but if you must shop there, do NOT buy their warranty. Its a rip-off. For more info on that, read some of the customer comments at http://www.bestbuysux.org

I prefer Circuit City.

I'm also in the market for a digital camera and plan to make a purchase soon. I've been looking at the Sony Cybershot DSC-P7, which runs about $399 for 3.2 megapixels and 3X zoom. It also shoots small mpeg's with audio, too. A friend has also recommended the P9 to me, which is similar but with 4 megapixels.

That was nothing, wait till I get going on questions. Just kidding.

There are a number of real cool little cameras. You pay a little more for small. Also you need to plan on getting more memory.

One of the down sides of small cameras is they take custome batteries, custome is expensive if you want a back up.

Go read up on the
Canon - PowerShot S45
Olympus - C-50Z
Sony - DSC-P9

These may well be more camera than you need but they are nice small cameras and hey I am a toy junkie and these are cool toys.

Go to a few stores and play with the thing but DONT take you credit card. That way you get a feel without the ability to be "sold" into one.

There are some other cool cameras to look at.

Here is a link to a list. you can follow links off the list to reviews and at the end of the reviews typicaly there are list of comprable cameras.

If you go with a little bigger camera, not shirt pocket small you can save some money and also use recgarable AA batteries. See my opus.

Whatever Dan Murphy uses sure takes great photos. Or maybe that is just another of Dan's many talents.
