....and my DS 15 months has an ear infection!! :sad2: The Doctor said it wasn't horrible yet, but he said it would be ideal for him NOT to fly. He said there is a chance the ear drum could perforate. Not to mention he could be in severe pain. Ultimately he said it was my decision. He is on antibiotics and will get two full doses (5day treatment) before we go. What have others done in the past? My DH isn't going on this trip it is just my mom and I and the kiddos, so I could leave him at home...but I really don't want to. He still nurses in the middle of the night, so I am not sure how he will be for my DH without me. Any thoughts??? What do I do?? :confused3

This has never happened to me , but I feel your pain. I have had many ear infections in my life. Lost partial hearing in one ear from so many infections. My parents did everything they could to prevent them. It is your decision, but if he gets at least 2 doses of antis then he will be on his way to being pain free. I would definitly do some tylenol to help any discomfort, but i'm sure he'll be fine. Hope all goes well.

I think with 2 full days in him, he would be fine, but I'm not a doctor. Is he acting better? Do you have a late flight? Maybe see if you can get him in early in the AM for an appt. If its better, than great, but if its not, you really don't want to risk an eardrum bursting.

2 full days of meds, he should be on his way to feeling better. If you do decide to go i would give him tylenol and benedryl before ther flight. The benedryl will keep everything clear (ears, sinuses) Good Luck and i really hope he is feeling better!

I actually didn't think he had an infection, my kids never exibit the "normal" ear infection symptoms (fever etc..). I took him in "just to make sure" He has been teething, so I just thought he was irritable because of that. Anyways he slept ALL night last night so I am assuming he is feeling a little better already!! Thanks for the encouragement!!

Wow, that's a tough one. I would say he would feel much better too. I know with my kids, even after the first dose I usually don't get any pain complaints. But I know you will be torn on what to do. I'm not really sure what I would do, I think I would lean more toward taking him. Not 100% sure though. Good Luck.

Two of my kids had consistant, severe ear infections at that age. I think you'll be fine after 2 days of antibiotics, but in case he feels pain, a little trick that works to alleve pressure is to take a cup (get one from the flight attendant), put a warm wet napkin in the bottom, and hold it (sideways) so it covers his ear. Weird, but it helps!

My youngest had a burst eardrum during one infection (just at home, not flying), and you do not want that to happen. Not much can be done, but it's very painful.

FWIW, I'd still take him! If he's nursing, you'll both want to be together.
