Please! Help Stop Global Warming!!

I don't wanna be a mean thread-killer, but I tend to believe that we are not the only factor in global warming. In the 70's, they were hyping global cooling, now it's warming.

We are a factor, but I don't think we're all to blame. The earth has cycles. I don't think we can do anything about it, and if we could, there's no point; it's a cycle, IMO.

I'm not usually all into these things, but I did see the story that Swedish Meatball link to above. I saw it on the evening news. It was very compelling to see a satellite image of the area....and than with in just an hour, to have sooooo much ice break off that you could actually see a huge difference in the satellite image. :scared:

Perhaps thinks are happening faster than thought.

Yes, there are most definately cycles.
And yes, the exact evolving, in the 'short' term & 'longer' term cannot be precisely pinpointed in regards to the exact raising/lowering of temperatures & the order of such, that is, to an exact figure or order of 'warming' or 'cooling'. Most research refers to the subject as 'climate change'.
Humankind most definitely exacerbates the warming/cooling process. So if we contribute even 1% to such a process, why should that be permissable?
Is that even wise, especially considering that we, at present, have a number of technologies that can partially alleviate our greedy consumption of fossil fuels or other wasteful processes?
It is much easier to throw up our hands, not change our habits, & believe climate change is inevitable or shove the entire blame on to rapacious energy conglomerates.
It's only human not to want to change, not to give up gas guzzling autos, to feel we can't afford to put out billions for mass transit, to give up consuming so much meat, continue to inhabit a disposeable (plastic wrappers, stryofoam containers etc) marketing system etc
It's human to so lust for money that whole corporations & industries & thus, political structures are dedicated to the undermining/discrediting of an overwhelming quantity of legitimate scientific research proving climate change, in order to retain $$$.
Human but not rational.
Hoping it's not too late!

There's too much gov't interference already. The other day I read an article about 1500 year sun spot warming cycles. For example, the Romans grew grapes in northern Britain when they occupied it. The earth undergoes periodic cycles of warming and cooling. We can stop driving-heck,we can stop breathing but that won't stop mother nature if she's cycling through a periodic climate change.

Someone give me some ways to help. I do recycle but what else can I do as an individual.

Easy little things can help:
Turn off the light when you leave a room
Turn off the tap water while you brush your teeth.
Have showers more often than baths.
Recycle anything you can.
Do not throw away your plastic bags anywhere else than trash bin, as it could finish into the sea and dolphins and turtles could eat them and die (if you leave near the sea of course!)
And many other little things that could easily help the earth without costing you a lot :goodvibes :thumbsup2

I do think we're making a mess out of this earth even if we are not contributing to global warming. There are so many common sense things people could do including recycling and reusing. We've become a disposible society.

Off my soapbox. No one really cares.

I highly recommend An Inconvenient Truth. I understand some will not watch it because it's done by Al Gore and because their minds are already made up (and perhaps they want to keep them that way? :confused3 ), but it gives very clear data of cycles and man's influence and what we can do to slow things down.

See I do care and I want to make sure that my kids care and so forth. I want to be informed.

I think the hardest of these to follow will be turning off the lights when I leave a room. My husband is forever yelling at me about turning off the lights.

Anyone else with ways to be GREEN?

I also recommend an 'inconvenient thruth' although I'm sure the Dawn's out there think it's a bunch of crap. Until someone sees it, they should hold their judgement to themselves. It's pretty clear this earth is changing and I really think the amount of pollution we humans cause is to blame.

I try to do my part by buying post consumer waste products when they are available and those new lightbulbs that last years and I use cold water to do my laundry.

Every little bit helps. I'm 22 (well 23 tomorrow) and I want this earth to be around when I'm 50.

Shopping for locally grown produce can help also. It not only helps local farmers, but saves on cross country shipment polution.
