we are thinking of adding a very small contract to our poly contract--we have an aug UY with only 100 points
and since we like to stay a week we need 125 points
we bought in 2016 and so far we have been lucky in still being able to bank points but thats going to end with our 2027 trip so we dont have to start borrowing since it wont be long and we wont have any points

so Im looking into thoughts on what our best option would be
should we just buy the small contract at the poly or
buy a small contract at another resort so wed have 2 home resorts
but how does that work then when you make a reservation since we dont want a split stay
but then would our 100 point at the poly I know we can get the 11 month booking but then the other resort would have the 7 month since like I said we dont want a split stay

we were also contacted by DVC guide that there is a promotion with chase visa to get a slight discount by using the visa card
but it seems to start at 50 points and at this point we dont want to go that high

I was also thinking of booking a 6 night stay and then buying the one time points but then Id have to wait till 7 months and hope theres still openings any advice on doing it this way I hope this makes some sense I hope I didnt leave anything out

any advice would be greatly appreciated
thanks all

I'd ask yourself first do you want to stay in the bigger rooms like 1/2BR at Poly? Do you care about the tower? If the answer is yes to either of those it's probably worth considering keeping everything in the same home resort.

If you're just trying to book the longhouses though it may benefit you to just purchase the points at another home resort you enjoy so you can bank/borrow and diversify your home resort locations.

Is your travel plan to continue to stay at the Poly? I'd look at a small resale Poly contract if so.

Alternatively, you can buy another contract at a different home resort and bank and borrow to alternate using the points. You could go resale as well. Go to www.dvcforless.com, filter to August use year, and you can begin looking at all the different options. I would stick to the same use year to make things simple.

EDIT: I would only add on the second home resort if you were buying enough to make it meaningful with banking and borrowing - around 50 points at a lower points chart resort. If you were thinking less, I'd only go Poly.

Definitely DO NOT buy another home resort if you don’t have enough at your primary home resort already.

I’d either buy a 50pt AUG resale or go direct if it is under 50 points.

Advantage of direct is that you don’t need title insurance, get the points instantly, may get 2024 points (?), not restricted in the future, etc. downside is price.

A 50pt resale poly is probably going for around $170pp and it will take 2-3 months to get the points loaded. You don’t get to customize how many points you want resale, you take what is available on the market.

But…. is it worth it to pay less per point if you are buying way more points than you need?

Don’t forget to consider the value of your DVC point purchase will probably increase within a few years. And fairly easy to sell if necessary.
I would probably buy a small contract at the Poly August Use year.
You might need more points to book your vacation depending on point charts , dates, and availability. Your resort is very popular.

I'd stick with your same home resort if you're just doing a small 25-pt contract. It'd be hard to do too much at a new/diff resort with just 25 there. Plus adding at your current home gets you to the stay you wanted.

Is your current 100-pt contract resale or direct? If you got a 25-pt direct and your orig contract is also direct then you'd be just 25 pts off from locking in a blue card. That may not be something of interest though.

The email from Disney today indicated you had to be getting 150 or higher for the $1,000 Visa discount to kick in, but maybe there's a lower scale available at fewer points?

Sorry if i missed it but you don’t mention if your points you already have are direct or resale? If direct, and Im guessing from 2016, I think you are already blue card holders, in which case buying direct would only really benefit you if you wanted to use those points at newer resorts. Going direct you’re going to have to buy 50 points, Im not even sure there are resale contracts for less than 50? I wouldn’t buy a small contract at another home resort because it would be rather pointless, you would be banking and borrowing to get enough nights for a stay.

Nope. Poly minimum is 25 points.

If you do not want a split stay, I would add the 25 at Poly and not get another home resort.
Agree, except i'd get 50 to get to 150.... unless.

If not already grandfathered in to benefits, id definitely get 50 more Poly direct.. at this point I would probably just get them direct anyway (unless your current points are resale), how much are you going to save on 25-50 points to not be able to use them past 2042, or to have any hassles down the road for perks. ($250 or less?)

Agree with just adding on at Poly, misread and thought you were buying 125 points, not just an additional 25. With it just being 25, you'll get a lot more benefit having it all at one resort and less headache than having to deal with waiting til 7 months to combine

I wanted to add on about 75 to my current 150. So I bought 100 because we have plans. I wanted a little more just in case. I equated it to when I bought a new smoker: people don’t really wish they had a smaller one. So if you need 25 then maybe buy 50 and I would stick to the home resort.

Definitely buy at your home resort in the same use year to add on, unless you have a ton of points and travel multiple times per year, are really cool with banking and borrowing, or love split stays. It is honestly much easier to have the bulk of your points at one spot.
