Yes, they are fully connected. I used to work as a leukemia researcher, and we were in contact with the US regularly.

The United States equivalent is Be The Match. US peeps should go there to find out how to register.

My understanding is also the the agencies work together to find matches.

I've been in the registry for years, but have never been called as a match. (Yet).

I am in the Canadian registry, and have donated bone marrow twice. Not for transplants, but for research. It's not as simple a procedure as donating blood, but nothing compared to what the recipient is going through.

Thank you for posting and asking for people to register. One of our neighbor's son age 23 has recently been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and is waiting for a match as well. We had a drive and registered 432 people a few weeks ago but he still waits. Thank you to those who have registered to help save a life.

Thank you for posting this, I have a relative who found out he was ill this past winter and it looks like he is facing a marrow transplant in May. Fortunately, they found a match.

Also - for those of you have never considered this before, blood platelets are needed every day. This is something you can donate and then within a few days also contribute whole blood if you wish. If you have recently donated whole blood you must wait the 60 days to allow your body to recover.

I try to donate 4 or 5 times per year after seeing some of the kids at our local Children's Hospital and all that they go through. Look at it as the fastest way to lose a pound!
