Help!!

Planned a trip for my family of 5 for December. Already have ressies at POFQ. Had invited my MIL but never actually thought she'd say yes so as a family of 6 we are left with less options.

I'm happy she said yes but not sure what to do and hubby and I aren't on the same page.

So what would you do - two value rooms, a family suite, or an offsite villa now?? Or a choice I hadn't mentioned? There's not an availability problem so far. MIL will pay the difference but would prefer to stay around $1000-1200

I should note normally we stay in DVC villas but are points poor until March.

Prefer to stay around $1000-1200 for what? Total? For how many days?

It sounds like your choices are either a value (two rooms or suite) or offsite. Personally, I would do the 2 value rooms (I would probably book Pop and request refurbished rooms). You will get 4 beds, two bathrooms and be on site!

I would go two value rooms. Another possibility would be to rent a house. or get a 3 or 4 bedroom at Wyndham Bonnet Creek.

I would get 2 hotel rooms offsite.

This:thumbsup2, except I would probably request connecting rooms rather than the refurbished rooms.

I would book two value rooms and request two connecting rooms. whichever value has the lowest price wins for me. We are not fans of the newly renovated POP rooms. :duck:

I'm not a fan of offsite and while I love honey's mom I wouldn't want her in a suite with us, you just need some space sometimes. If a value were my only option, I'd go with the two value rooms.

A request for two rooms that connect would only be a request and not a guarantee. The two rooms you end up with might not even be real close together. Have you checked into renting points for a two bedroom DVC villa at OldKey West or Saratoga Springs?

How were you going to fit 5 at POFQ? (Your youngest is not under 3 according to your signature). Or did you mean POR?

I would go with two value rooms. It would be cheaper than a suite and I think there would be more beds. You could put 1 or 2 of the kids with your MIL.

That's difficult since she can't pay for her room at pofq. I'd go with 2 value rooms and put one of the boys in MILs room since I don't think you can book a value room with 5 unless one child is under 3.
Staying on site means you don't have to rent a car, and get DME for me it's great, I don't have to hassle with dragging luggage thru the airport coming or going. Also you have WDW transportation which means freedom, you aren't all tied to the hip. If MIL wants to go back to resort for a break she can. You all don't have to arrive and leave together. Or maybe a child needs a nap, someone can take child back to room and easy to meet up later.

I see you're going in Dec! Don't cancel pofq until you've made sure you can get into another resort. It's possible there are no rooms left. You may have to politely explain to MIL that everything is booked up.

I would not even think of an offsite hotel around Christmas. WDW is going to be so crowded if you're going around Christmas. You'll have to rent a car and drive, find parking.....and no breaks.

I think it depends on what your priorities are...whether or not you want to stay on-property, how much privacy your MIL wants, etc.

The 2 value rooms is the best option so far but she would have to share the room with one or two of your kids. If that can't be worked out, I would look off-property in your case.

Yes sorry - I mistyped; our ressies are at Riverside :)

This - we don't usually go during more peak times so I tried to explain this to hubby. I'm showing him your response.

I think two values are what we are looking at. I plan to call tomorrow. :)

Sue,
I agree...

Also, someone correct me if I am wrong... If the parks close due to capacity, if you stay onsite, you are guaranteed entry to at least one of them. Christmas is very busy. We've done it, and you need lots of patience. FUN time to be at Disney!

We went with my in-laws once (total of 6 people) and stayed together in a Fort Wilderness cabin. It worked out well - the kids slept in the bunks, us in the bedroom with them and in laws on the queen murphy. Not, sure if it would be cheaper than two rooms, but it was for us at the time.

I would do two value rooms, only because if you did a suite, you would either have to give her the bedroom or she would have to sleep with the kids. Neither one of those options seems great to me. Of course if you do the two value rooms, one of the kids will have to stay with her, unless one of them is under 3.

Thanks all!!! I called tonight and was able to secure two Pop Century rooms for the same time period for only $926 more so totally in her and our budget.

Staying onsite this trip, this time of year, I think is going to be much more beneficial/less stressful then off property.
