Please Help- Question from a renter

I just purchased a DVC rental stay on ebay. I've done a crazy amount of research on the seller and I feel pretty confident about the reservation. I read on DIS today about "segmenting" a reservation so I asked the seller if we could do that. She will be switching the reservation to my name today. She told me that to add the plan, I would have to pay her for it so she can add it when she puts the reservation in my name. Now, I thought that when renting, you pay for that when you get to the resort. Are the rules different when you "segment" the reservation? This is my first DVC rental.

Are you talking about dining? I had to pay the person I was renting off the dining plan. It has to be added ahead of time. The reservation is in my name. I can pull it up on the disneyworld website and did all my dining and such.

You used to be able to pay at check-in, but that changed last year. You now have to pay when you add the dining plan, regardless of whether you are segmenting it or not.

The rules for adding the Dining Plan changed several months ago. You used to be able to pay for the plan at check in.

Now you have to pay for it when you add it to the reservation. And you must add it at least 48 hours prior to check in.

It has nothing to do with segmenting.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes I am talking about adding the dinning plan. After starting this thread, I did a search (should have done that first) and it looks like you can add the plan up to 48 hours in advance but you have to pay the owner. If you break up or segment the reservation, it has to be done at the time the reservation is made. Evidentally this changed recently. Can someone confirm this for me?

And, be aware, that there have been some issues with people who have segmented their reservations to get the dining plan for only some of the nights.

If you are looking to have the plan for all your nights, then it won't be an issue and you won't have to segment--as mentioned, you do have to pay when its added now.

Thanks! Thanks what I was looking for.

I would not segment, even if you can make it happen. The risks of having a problem are far too great and it would be harder to fix as a renter.
