We are spending a night in Ft Myers to visit relatives before heading to WDW, and are unfamiliar with the area. We need to book one weeknight stay in a clean room in a decent hotel/motel in a decent area. We will have two adults and a 1 yo. I looked on Orbitz and found Quality Hotel with 3 stars for 53., Days Inn Holiday Inn, Motel 5, Howard Johnson, etc, all rated 1-2 stars with varying prices. We will probably just use the room to sleep after we visit, and will head to WDW in the morning. We don't need a bunch of amenities, although a cheap rate and a free breakfast would be wonderful! We have DC and Costco memberships. Any suggestions or advice?

If they have an address for "Cleveland Av" or US 41......don't take it. They are on the main road & some of them aren't so good. There are some newer hotels on Colonial Blvd and on Summerland Av. You can PM with the names of the ones you are considering staying at & I will let you know what I can about them. I can't remember the names of the newer ones. There are some others in different area's but they are more expensive. I can tell you that there is a decent & not so expesive Quality Inn in Cape Coral (just outside of Ft Myers) on Cape Coral Parkway. Where in Ft Myers do you know people?? That will also help decide where you should book...........................

The Holiday Inn Bell Tower is nice and centrally located. It is walking distance from a large movie theater, Outback Steak House, Ben & Jerry's and TGI Fridays. Across the street (a busy one, I would not walk), are Carabbas, Olive Garden, and Lone Star Steak House and Burger King. A bit down the road are Macoroni Grill, Smokey Bones and Sweet Tomatoes.

The Radisson on Cleveland Ave/US41 is getting a bit run down and over run with loud people (minor league baseball players and spring breakers, etc). There is a nice place downtown -- formerly Holiday Inn Sunspree on the river, but do not expect to do much there other than be in the pool or poolside bar.

It does help to know what area of town you want to be in, and where your people are. There are several newer hotels out by the airport as well. Not real posh, but a place to rest your head for the night -- and clean!

Enjoy your trip!

Another vote for the Bell tower..and we paid an extra $10 for the (I think it was this floor) fifth floor which gave us snacks (well, actually meals!) and drinks. Very nice Holiday Inn, great room, great location.

There is a very nice Country Inn and Suites on Marketplace Rd in Ft Myers...free continental breakfast and only 4 miles from Southwest Florida International Airport. A standard (depending on WHEN you are going) is about $74, but with AAA you can get $60+.
