Please help, Newbie to Disney Infinity 2.0 and game system?

We just bought a Wii U. Planning on buying Disney Infinity 2.0 Toy Box starter pack for ds. Is that everything we need to get him playing it on Christmas day when he opens the Disney Infinity?

I totally edited the first post from the original. I didn't think this was going to be so confusing to me.

What can he do with the Toy Box starter pack? The first time he's ever played, was with the Disney Infinity in the Chase Lounge at Epcot during the F&W festival. He has some special needs and anything too complicated will just frustrate him. He had so much fun with the game at the lounge.
