Please help - never scrapbooked before

I need some serious help here. My dd16 has been in drama for the last 2 years and has done a few plays. She has saved all of the tickets, programs, pictures and wants a scrapbook made. I thought it might be nice to buy her a large book just for this where she can add more to it later as she finishes school, problem is I know absolutely nothing about scrapping. Can someone point me in the direction where I can buy supplies and maybe a nice scrapboook with a drama theme to it? Also would it be a nicer gift if I did it for her or just got her all the supplies and let her do it herself the way she wants it? Keep in mind she is very artistically challenged...very. Anyway, what exactly do I need to start off a book like this and where is the best place to buy the supplies?

Welcome (sort of!) to the scrapping world!

Do you prefer to shop online or locally? All ACMoore, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Joann, etc. craft stores sell empty scrapbooks (both in 8x8 and 12x12 sizes), paper, and adhesive. That's pretty much all she'd need to get started (but then the addictions grow from there!)

Online, you could google "drama scrapbook paper" and see lots of theater-related paper designs you could order. Assume about a buck a page for this paper + shipping. Frequently, the suppliers offer coordinating stickers, ribbon, etc. to match the paper if you like. Again...addiction time! But, if she's got lots of memorabilia, you might not need (as much of) this.

My recommendation is to go with a 12 x 12 book (the programs and stuff she has is probably larger than and 8x8 size). And get her some tape adhesives and photo corners - we call those "dry" adhesives, as opposed to liquid glues which are the "wet" adhesives. She might want not to put globs of glues onto her memorabilia. There are "tape runner" things that are just a couple of dollars and she can just zip along the backs of her items to stick them onto the paper.

I have 2 teenage daughters (16 & 15) the older one wants me to do all of her scrapping for her (she does 2 choirs, marching band, and youth symphony). My younger DD does her own scrapping (she does drama and 2 choirs). But, she has been scrapping for 5 years.

I would get a 3 ring scrapbook (it's very easy to add pages to those) and 12x12 top loading page protectors. As Pinball Family posted you'll need dry adhesives and 12x12 paper too.

Don't be intimidated by the scrapbook, it's just a way to keep all your DD's drama memories safe and in the same place Have fun and come back to ask any questions you have.

I'm somewhat of a newbie myself. It's easy to get pulled into it.

What I would do is start by hitting AC Moore, Michaels, or Joanne's. Also if you have a Tuesday Morning close by, they have tons of stuff for a lot less than the big 3. There are paper kits out there that keep with basic themes.

Google will be your friend--there's whole sites out there devoted to Scrapbooking, maybe pull some inspiration from them.

As they have said get an 12x12 album with either posts or binder style and more clear top loading pages. The posts are like screws and can be unscrewed and new pages added as needed.

As for paper --- yes you can find some "fun" themed drama paper online or a local Scrapbooking store. I would also look into the huge pads of 12x12 paper (called stacks). Usually the paper is sort of coordinated. I know I have a black, white, and silver glitter stack that would be perfect! It also helps when you are "challenged" to pick background paper that will all "flow". The stacks are located in the scrap aisles.

Cost -- DON'T buy anything at JoAnns or Micheals at retail. You can always get 40% off coupons online or in the paper. Also they often run 40% sales. In my town JoAnns has the best selection, but that can change based on where you live!

I might be too late but just came across this. Your best bet, if you have one, is to find your Local Scrapbook Store. These are independent stores and you will find the BEST help from one of the indies instead of the Big Box retailer who generally doesn't have specific information on a section of their store. You find a nice store w/a nice staff and you'll leave feeling like a pro

Since your daughter has all of her memorabilia, you should probably go with 12x12. You can go post-bound or 3-ring. I personally can't stand the instability with a 3-ring and have thrown mine away. You can get toploading pages and you put the photos/programs/stubs directly on the paper. The easiest way is to use a tape runner. You may choose to mat your photos w/a coordinating paper. Don't be afraid to stack or twist and turn. You can overlay things as well. Just sit down, spread out your background paper and just move stuff around until it screams "this is it!" and then (what I do is take a pic w/my cell phone so I remember) tape it all down and voila! You're done.

There is a great drama paper out by Moxxie right now. Take a look around the interet or a LSS to find it. It is not carried by most Big Box stores.
