Please help - need camera advice

Hello!

Today I let my cousin borrow my camera to take pictures at her sons first birthday and another cousin dropped it.

It was a kodak easyshare c875 8.0 mega pixels - not the top of line I know but it was pretty good to me.

Neither of my cousins (the one who borrowed & the one who dropped it) will replace it or help me replace it.

I am going on vacation in a week and as an avid scrapbooker I need a camera.

I normally do not post on this board but I was hopping that you could point me in the direction of some good cameras. I can not spend thousands on one - I really dont need one like that. I am willing to spend a few hundred, but I am not sure if I should stick with the kodak easyshare or go with a different brand.

Do you have any reccommendations?

The things that I did not like about the one that just broke was that the battery would die very quickly and that the LCD screen was not visible in sunlight.

I can't believe they're not going to help you replace it, how awful!

I used a Canon Powershot IS S2 that I adored before I got my Nikon D40. It's a little bigger then a point and shoot but I never had a problem throwing it in my bag and it takes fantastic pictures. The latest model is the S5 I believe. Awesome zoom and if your inclined you can shoot manual and do all sorts of fancy stuff with it. I had Kodak Easyshares before that and the quality of the Canon is far superior IMO.

I agree with the Canon quality and the S5 (less than $300) but it's larger than other P&S cameras and has more manual controls. You may just want to go to a store with a good camera selection and check them out

I also am surprised that they won't at least assist, but I'm sure that's a topic for a far different post/forum.

DW & I went from a Kodak EasyShare camera to the Cannon S5 IS after much research, and we have been very happy with our decision.

Not that you can't find this info but below are some of the specs of the camera:

* 12x optical zoom (very nice, DW calls it 'stalker zoom')
* 8MP (so similar mega-pixel size as your last camera)
* It takes SD Cards, which was nice because that's what our previous camera used so we already had a few cards to use.
* It has a flip up flash that you have to manually raise, so no accidental flash photography on the dark rides
* We really like the LCD screen on the camera, it folds out and rotates so that you can view it from many different angles, for those over the head shots, or self portraits.
* We also like playing with the color accent feature

I can't believe they will not help but I have learned a lesson about letting them borrow my stuff!! LOL!! It was a costly lesson but hey at least I get to have the fun of picking a new camera.

My family members all have Pentax P&S cameras and love them. The screen modes are awesome! Our trip to Scotland in 2006 has great photographic memories preserved because of our Pentax cameras! Just got a Pentax DSLR and am equally thrilled.

Bought a Canon SD1100IS and love it. Small, easy to use, great pics. Check it out and see if it's what you're looking for. Retail is about $249. HTH
