I'm thinking about booking the GCV for this Nov/Dec. Nov 27 would be our arrival date.

Our UY is December. I can get a one bedroom without borrowing and would need to borrow 50 points for a 2 bedroom.

What happens to my points, both the current and borrowed, if I need to cancel? Are there cancel date restrictions like 30 or 45 days out?

I will be booking for October 2012 this November if that makes a difference as far as losing points.

:thanks: and :worship: and :goodvibes

Cancellations must be 31 days out. If you borrow, and cancel, those points have the same restrictions as any points in the year you deposited them into.

I'm sorry to be a pain but it's still unclear. I have read the guide but seriously my brain doesn't process stuff like this. Yes, I have a Master's but when it comes to common sense, you'd never know.

So if I didn't borrow and canceled before 31 days, could I use the current years points when booking on Nov 14 of this year for our Oct 14, 2012 trip?

If I borrowed the 50 points and cancel can I use those when I book the Oct 14, 2012 trip on Nov 14?

I think this is what I understand.

You have CURRENT points you said, that would mean you have Dec 2010 use year points.

You can use those for Nov 27-30. You can't use those for Dec 1 2011 forward unless you bank some of them for those days.

For Dec 1 2011 and forward, you can use your Dec 2011 points. No borrowing needed unless you also want to use those for the November days.

If you cancel even more than 30 days out, you will have to use the Dec 2010 points prior to November 30 2011. You will be too far out to bank them (would have had to be done in July). The December 2011 points would just be returned to that use year, and still useable and bankable.

So I'm not sure if I understand everything - but you do have a complicated situation. A trip that spans the end of one use year and the beginning of another, with the possibility of cancelling. That's a tough situation.

Ideally, you want to travel at the beginning of your use year, not in the last 4 months -- for maximum flexibility for any cancellations and reuse of points.

If you borrow for a Nov 2011 trip those points will expire after Nov 30, 2011 and you cannot use them for Oct 2012. Borrowing is a final transaction and the points cannot be put back into their original UY.

If you use current points and cancelled prior to July 31st and banked those points then you could use those towards the Oct 2012 trip. However if you booked Nov 2011 with current 2010 Dec points and cancelled after July 31st those points will need to be used by Nov 30, 2011 or they will expire.

Thank you Vicki! :goodvibes

If I cancel 31+ days out what happens to my current 2010 points? Can I use them for booking my Oct 2012 trip? They'll technically be in use for a reservation before the end of my UY which is Dec. 1. Travel won't occur until Oct 2012 though.

Or should I bank 2010 points now and then book?

Does MS use banked points first?

:upsidedow :rotfl:

Then a one bedroom it is! :worship: No borrowing.

Thank you, thank you! Not what I wanted to hear but grateful for the info. :thumbsup2

You do realize the odds of booking a GV for this November is very very slim.

I'm not booking a GV, just a one bedroom. I got Nov 27-Nov 30. :woohoo: I'm wait-listing the last 2 nights. I'm stoked.

I, too, have a December use year yet always travel in late October and early November. Since I travel with friends I don't worry as much about cancelling the vacation especially if I have borrowed points (i.e, travelling in October 2011 (which is still our 2010 year) but using points from my 2011 use year which as you know goes from 12/1/11 to 11/30/2012).

I know if I ever do have to cancel I would either have to rent out the reservation or deposit the points into RCI.

Travelling in October or November with a December use year can be risky.

It is risky I agree. October is our favorite time for Disneyland. We'll be taking our first October trip to WDW next year.

I forgot about depositing into RCI. :thumbsup2 Thank you.

Just talked to DH and he said: if it's booked, I know it will happen. I'll even have a few points to bank for our next trip.
