Please help me with Ipod touch purchase

Hi
I am not that savvy when it comes to electronics.
I want to buy a 32g ipod touch as a Christmas gift, and I want to buy it this month using a card that has extra rewards this month only.
On the Apple site it comes to 312 with tax.
On Amazon, it is $299.00, plus I have been saving up gift cards, so it will bring the price down to about $260.00
But I cannot figure out if the Amazon ipod already has the ios5 or whatever it is already installed.
I don't want to buy it if it does not, because, as I said, it is a gift and I don't want to open it and attempt to install the updates.
It looks like the white one already has it installed, but not the black one,
but I am not sure.
Can anyone help?

To upgrade its to IOS its just a download. You could pay the full 299 to have it already downloaded or save some money and get it at 274 and download IOS yourself.

It probably will have IOS5, but if it doesn't you can upgrade for free when you plug it into your computer and sync with iTunes.

You can take them out of the box and put it back in very easily with out the receiver knowing...

The 4th generation is the latest model I would not count on it having the latest update unless it specifically say so by name not just latest. If you notice the description says nothing about icloud and the other ISO features.

True. I just figured that they wouldn't say "latest model" if it wasn't, in fact, the latest model. That and the fact that the name is the same as the white one, as well as there not being another model of the black available. You would think they would have the newest 4th gen. in black, not just the outdated version. But it's certainly possible you're right.

I didn't think they came out with a next gen iPod last week, I thought they just came out with iOS5 for the current generation. In our local Apple store, it appeared they might be doing the upgrade for people as they were purchased, but it was hard to tell with the iPhone madness going on the day I was in.

The newer version of the 4th gen. iPod touch isn't a new generation, it's apparently just slightly updated (high-def video, updated gyroscope, etc.) from the original 4th gen. version. Not sure how much of a difference there actually is, but seeing as I'm currently in the market for a new ipod touch (pool accident ) I'm trying to figure out all the differences before I purchase.

One nice thing about buying your ipod through the Apple website is their free engraving. If it is a gift it is a nice touch. Both my DD's have gotten many compliments through the years. (one says "No, you cannot borrow my ipod!", another "Hands off-this is Devon's ipod")
I even got one for my 22nd anniversary, and just gave my husband one for our 25th anniversary this April (his says " one day you find 25 years have got behind you" - Pink Floyd "Time" reference changed from 10 to 25.
If nothing else it makes them less likely to be stolen-at least that's what my DDs have said.
