We are interested in staying in a 2BR Theme Park View or Lake View at BLT (our home resort) from December 29, 2014 to January 4, 2015. I've read a little bit about it, but I don't quite understand it yet. I'd certainly appreciate some guidance. Thanks.

Start looking at the member website to see what is available for a week 11 months from today. If you see availability, check again tomorrow. As you get closer (a week or more out), you'll want to make a seven night reservation. Then the next day, you call MS and cancel the first night and add the last night. Keep doing this until you get all your nights.

BUT, the nights you cancel might require more points than the nights you add at the end (early days in January vs last days of Dec). So you might wind up with points left over.

In that case just book 1 less night in your walking reservation. As long as you have the 1-2 days right at 11 months no one can get that room the next days.

I was wondering about that.

Good to know. Since I am looking at trying to get a 2BR at BLT over New Year's, do I want to start walking sooner rather than later? Also, I've read that you don't need to call every day but to call before your original reservation has ended and then extend. Any thoughts?

Also, I'm trying to decide whether to go for a Lake View or Theme Park View. I have enough points for either and this is a big deal once-in-a-lifetime trip with my in-laws so I'm fine spending the extra points, but I certainly would appreciate some guidance.

I'm also interested in how far out you would need to start walking for a 1 br BWV boardwalk view for that same New Year's time. Any thoughts?

Any thoughts out there?

For a once in a lifetime trip I'd do TPV, particularly if you will be in your room around midnight both 31 and 30. They have been doing the super duper fireworks on both the 30 and 31st the past few years. We stayed TPV at GF last year and the fireworks were really incredible. They shoot them off from many different locations around MK and the lake.
