I don't understand why I can't wrap my head around this. I've read the threads but now that the months are going by and I'll be booking the end of this year I'm trying to get everything figured out.

I have two contracts that are both Oct use year, an Aulani and a boulder ridge.

If I'm traveling at the end of nov 2023 (I know, a very busy time) and I want to go all out and use 2022, 2023 and 2024 points. How does that work? I think where I'm getting really confused is the fact that I'll be booking this in December 2022. Since I'll be in my Oct 2022 use year, how does the system know to give me 2023 and 2024 points?

Am I even making sense?? 😑 if anyone can shed some light I'd really appreciate it. Or correct me please!

In December 2022, you can only book November 2023 at Boulder Ridge with your Boulder Ridge points and at Aulani with your Aulani points. Are you planning to use both contracts for all 3 years for this trip or just one contract for all 3 years?

For a November 2023 trip, you need to bank your October 2022 points (from whichever contract you’re using) before booking or you won’t be able to use them for a November 2023 trip.

The system will use those banked points first, then pull your October 2023 points from that same contract, and finally will tell you you need to borrow points. That’s when it will give you the option to borrow your October 2024 points from that same contract.

Wow thank you! That totally makes sense! I think what I was missing is that I need to bank the 2022 points into 2023 before booking.

I'm planning on just using the boulder ridge points. Thank you so much for explaining that to me!

Forget calendar years. What matters is the UY the trip falls in, not when you book. A trip in November 2023 falls in your October 2023 UY. That means you can use banked points from your October 2022 UY, points from your October 2023 UY, and borrowed points from your October 2024 UY.

At some time between October 1, 2022, and the day in December 2022 that you book your reservation, you need to bank however many October 2022 points you'll need into your October 2023 UY.

You won't have to do anything special with the October 2023 points - they're already waiting to be used for a Nov. 2023 reservation.

While you're in process of making the Nov. 2023 reservation, the system will tell you that you don't have enough points and will ask whether you want to borrow some. Then you will go through the process of telling it how many points to borrow from your October 2024 points.

And as above, at 11 months you can only use points from that same resort. You won't be able to use Boulder Ridge points to book Aulani - you'd have to wait until 7 months before your trip to use BRV points for an Aulani reservation. And vice-versa.

I just booked something and it said you need so many points and asked if i wanted to borrow from next year. But you have to bank last years points into this year first and then it will let you only borrow one year on top.

Just a reminder that at the 11 month mark, you will only be able to use Boulder Ridge points for VBR stays and Aulani points for Aulani stays regardless if they are in the same membership.

Just remember that if you borrow points from 2024 for a trip in 2023, you HAVE TO use them in 2023. Same for banking - if you bank 2022 points into 2023 you HAVE TO use them in 2023. You cannot change your mind and use them this year, nor can you change your mind later and bank them into 2024.
