A lot of these vacation packages are xxx amount of money per person.

Okay, I see that, but what I don't understand is that after the first person pays for hotel and park tickets, all the second person should have to pay for is his park ticket. He should not have to pay for the hotel. The hotel rate is the same weather one person stays there or two people stay there.

Do you understand what I mean?
Am I missing something? Please help me to understand this.

What you're seeing is packages priced per person based on double-occupancy. The price for the entire package is arrived-at (based on supply and demand, mainly), and then divided in half, so it can be presented "per person" as customers would expect (based on common industry practice).

As an addition to this, when you are dealing with a package rate there will be a "single supplement". This basically is the amount of the rate that applies to the room. Also there are rates for "additional people" (or children) in a room, where there is generally no increase in the room cost itself but takes into account meals, tickets, etc.
