This is our 5th trip to Disney. Last time was 3 yeas ago. Our kids will be 8 and 10. We’ve always been an MK family and have only stayed at Poly (2x), GF, and WL. We always loved the convenience of the monorail with young kids and midday breaks.
With the new room discounts, GF and YC seem to have the best deals. We’re strongly considering YC bc it would be something different and our kids would probabalt love stormalong bay. Plus, even though we’re an MK family, YC is very convenient to Epcot and HS.
I also like that it’s contained in one building and has newly refurbished rooms.
All that being said, it’s very hard to switch from MK area and convenience of GF. I’m worried I’ll regret it.
Would love some input from the experts!!

YC is an awesome area especially since your kids are at the age to appreciate Epcot more, plus the Boardwalk is there! That would be my choice. New experiences as the kids grow up at Disney are so cool!

You will not regret it the YC and Epcot resort area is wonderful. It is nice to try something new. Our kids loves the YC/BC area.

We visit every few years and stay at a different resort each time. Our last trip was at YC before the renovation and it was the first time staying in the Epcot area. We loved it! We enjoyed being able to walk to 2 parks or take the boat if we were tired at the end of the night and the buses to AK and MK were just fine. YC and BC share a bus but YC is first.

The Epcot resort area is my favorite place to stay! We stayed at Polynesian last October and while we enjoyed it, we missed the feeling of the Yacht/Beach Club and Epcot resort area as a whole.

I think the Yacht Club is just as opulent and beautiful as Grand Floridian, but just with a more casual vibe. Nothing beats being able to walk into Epcot. Definitely invest in park hoppers for your tickets, you can come back from one park and walk right over to Epcot to eat if you want.

You'll love it!

My kids are a little younger - 8 and 4 - but we've historically been a MK resort family too, with only brief encounters with the Epcot resorts. We had largely ignored YC in trip planning in the past.

Until somewhat randomly this summer we tacked on an a night at YC after spending the week at Poly. I have to say, we instantly loved it. I did not like SAB when our kids were younger, but now they are more in the zone where that pool works well (and will continue to get better as they get older)... gosh it's hard to beat that pool. The renovated rooms, the peaceful resort... walk-ability to two theme parks. I used to not care much for DHS but now with Toy Story Land that park has suddenly become a higher priority.

We liked it so much we immediately planned a return trip. DW does not care for BC or BWI... but YC got two thumbs up from her.

If worried about regretting it, can you plan a split? That's pretty much why we only did one night - it was to get a taste before planning something more substantial. Like you, I'm always so worried about blowing a trip budget on something that might not work for our family, the same way the MK resorts do work so well.

GF is my absolute favorite resort, but we never stay there anymore because my kids have outgrown MK--we really only go to MK one day of our 5-6 day trip now. Our boys (9 & 13) LOVE the EP resorts, all of them. Ever since we started going to Beach Club, Yacht Club and now Boardwalk (our new favorite), we can't bring ourselves to stay at the MK resorts because we feel like it's too much a time waste getting back and forth to EP and HS. While I miss the feeling of the Grand Floridian, its ambiance and view of MK, we can never give up walking to World Showcase and HS. It's just so awesome not having to rely on transportation, and we love the vibrancy of the Boardwalk.

Both the MK resorts and the Epcot resorts are awesome in their own ways. We have loved the BC since my kids were babies (now age 15). We loved going to MK in the mornings and then monorail back to Epcot to walk through it, do a ride or 2 and have a snack, then walk back to BC for some pool time. After pool time, we would shower/relax for a bit and then simply walk back to Epcot for the night, have a nice dinner, FPs, watch Illuminations. It was amazing and a great fit for us.

However, MK resorts are also wonderful in their own ways. Such as ending each night at MK or simply watching fireworks from the resort (or our room!).

I agree that if you're worried, maybe start out your trip at an Epcot resort for a couple nights just to see how it feels. Then switch to your favorite MK resort. We used to split stay like that a lot.

I actually just had the same dilemma this week and decided on the Grand Floridian. We have stayed at the BC/YC before and it is very nice. The pool is amazing and you can walk or ride a boat to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. The rooms are recently renovated at the YC as well. The only reason why I chose the Grand Floridian over the Yacht Club (They had great deals at the YC too) was because we have never stayed there and price wise it was the cheapest of the 3 resorts directly on the monorail. I am hoping I made the right choice. If you decide on the YC you will not be disappointed.

I haven't stayed at GF yet, but I have stayed Poly and have also stayed at YC. YC lobby is beautiful and very warm and inviting. The rooms are similar in size so you won't be loosing any square footage staying at YC. Stormalong Bay is such a great pool area. And at night it's so pretty all lit up. At the YC, you also have tons of dining options AND 2 ice cream shops in walking distance.
