Hi fellow DIS-ers! Its been quite awhile since I've posted anything! I was wondering if you could please help me with something:

My mom is turning 60 & I am throwing her a big surprise party at a hall w/ a DJ, etc. & a guest list of 130!!!

I was wondering if anyone has any creative wording ideas and/or catchy phrases for the invitation... I was thinking of maybe incorporationg "on this day in 1944" & saying some things in history that have happened ( not sure yet) but I don't know how to research Sept. 20, 1944. So if you have any web-sites that could help me w/ that I'd appreciate it as well! Just please bring me any great ideas.. ... I know you guys are AWESOME & won't fail me!!
Thanks again in advance!!!!!:bounce:

If you go to your search engine and type in "September 20, 1944", you should get a whole bunch of hits.

BTW, DH's birthday is 9/20 too. Only he's not QUITE 60 yet.;)

Thanks grinningghost!

Anyone else have an cool invitation ideas???

We had a party for a friend who turned 60 last month and the theme was "Life begins AGAIN at 60"

She had quite a bit of sadness over the past years... she had her husband die young and leave her without any money and 3 kids to raise alone...recently she had a friend with cancer and took into her home last year & cared for until she died a few months ago...as well as her dad dying within the past couple years.

It was time for a new start! She needed to begin again.

We had fun young party favors like bubbles and penny candy on the tables...jacks and those little paddles with the ball attached!
Played music from the 40's & 50's. There were kids there but the adults loved playing with the toys they remembered from their younger days!

For flowers I used colored med. size gifts bags with sand in the bottom & crumpled newspaper then set packs of annuals on the top so it looked like the flowers were growing out of the bag. (We were then able to plant them in her yard) I then tied a couple balloons to the handle of the bags. The tables all had little signs that said "Life begins AGAIN at 60" on one side and birthday messages on the other side written by people at each of the tables.

The theme must have worked for her because there is a very nice man at church who has told her he would like to "see her socially" and she hasn't dated since her husband died 15 years ago.

Have a great party!
Colleen

Treat it as an anniversary of her birth...and the 60th is diamonds. You could do a whole theme on diamonds from the invitation to decorations, what to wear etc...

I did this for my mom and my brother. He was born on her 25th birthday. So, when she turn 50 and he turned 25, I threw them a gold and silver ball. It was so much fun to plan and everyone really liked the theme and got into it with what they wore (I did go formal) and their gifts and such.

Just an idea.
