Thanks in advance for your help! I have a Sony H-5 and I've done nothing before regarding manual settings. I really want to learn and get the most use out of it as I can.

Today I bought a couple of books about digital photography that I hope to read and practice the tips and different settings on the camera to achieve better results. There is a CD included that has a trial version of Adobe Photoshop Elements. Does this mean that it only has certain features of Photoshop and not the whole shebang or is it everything but will become inoperable after a certain period of time? If it is only going to be good for a certain period of time, then I will wait to load it until I'm ready to play around with it.

Also, I tried to post a picture in another thread and I uploaded it to the site, but couldn't find anywhere to insert it into the post. Under my posting rules, it states that I'm not able to post attachments. Does this mean I can't post pics?

Sorry, I feel that these are stupid questions, but I'm a newbie as far as all this goes.

you just put your photo on someplace like photobucket the copy then url for forums( photobucket it 's the last one under the photo) and paste it into the reply space , you don't need to attach anything
i would imagine the disk trial is either so many uses or so many days..the download from the website is like that...the website free trial has all the features, just for a limited time. there are 2 versions of photoshop though, elements has most of the features of the full version but it made for non professionals...the biggest difference that i can tell is raw is not as easy to work with in elements and some of the tools you have to hunt for ..there are some other differences as well as a $500 difference in price

Yes, I had a book with a trial version of PS Elements before. IT was the same 30 day trial as you download from Adobe. But it is a full version of PS Elements.

If you are searching for great software to use check out the free 30 day trial of Adobe Lightroom. It is on the Adobe site. It is great for those out there who shoot RAW (works for other formats too). SOOOOO much nicer than the annoying camera RAW plug in IMO.

Thanks! I'll wait for a time when I'm going to have a lot of time to spend on it. I actually have Corel Paint Shop Pro X that I got free plus shipping and handling. All the books out there discuss Photoshop though.

I did find a book about Paint Shop today, but it was a bit more involved than I need right now. I need to start with the real basic stuff! Maybe I can learn about Photoshop with this trial software + the book and then see if I can figure out how to do the same stuff with Paint Shop. The Dummies series has a book about Paint Shop Pro 9 -- I'm hoping they're working on an edition for X.
