Hi Photo Friends!
I had a Canon Rebel years ago, then had 3 kids and went to a decent point and shot, but miss the clarity, zoom, detail, and overall quality of the SLR. I am an huge scrapbooker. Still have those 3 kids and don't want the full size DSLR, so shopping bridge cameras, high end quality compact. Brother in law photo expert says the Canon G12 which seems to have better reviews than the newer G1X. I like many of the reviews of the Nikon P510. Not to offend, but I am not hung up on the brand, I know both are excellent. Questions...
1. Am I comparing apples to apples with my everyday auto mode type of use for this camera...family shots, sports shots, theme parks, etc. - again, looking for the high quality photo without having to adjust settings all the time.
2. Brand and price input - both come in around $400-500. Brother in law explains that the major pixel difference won't effect my use of these cameras.
I value any input, I am overwhelmed to say the least and knew my friends on the Dis would give me trustworthy advice. Looking for the new camera for our fall Fantasy Cruise in particular.
Thank you all for your expertise and sharing your photos on the dis threads, it is my favorite past time, the photo threads, and keeps me close to my favorite place in the world. I have so much respect for all of you that understand this complicated world of photography and use it as an art form!
