My BFF and her husband are DVC members have reserved rooms for us with their points. (We will be there with them as well as a few others) They reserved studios for each family at OKW. My DH is concerned about staying in a studio with our 2 year-old DS and is wondering if we can PAY for an upgrade to a larger room (2 bedrooms). Any ideas?

No flames...I told DH I would ask...my theory is that staying in a cardboard box at Disney is better than being at home!

No you cannot do that kind of upgrade with DVC. You would to have to redo a point reservation to a 2BR, which is a lot more points, or cancel the point reservation and do your own cash reservation through Disney for a 2BR (or 1BR) unit.

A studio at OKW has 2 queen beds, and a kitchette which includes refrifgerator, microwave, toaster, and coffeemaker.

The next larger unit is a one bedroom which has a King bed in the master suite, a full kitchen and sleeper sofa in the living room.

The studio also has a pack n play if your youngster would be more comfortable in that.

Points and cash can not be mixed for any one night.

The studios at OKW are the most spacious at Disney with huge balconies and should have plenty of room for the three of you. I think you will be pleasantly surprised and do keep in mind that your friend could rent those points for at least $10 per point, so if you're going for the week that could be anywhere from $800 - $1000 depending on the season. While I'm not trying to flame you, I just want you to realize that this is a very generous gift. When I took my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew last spring, my sis covered all my dinners at the table service restaurants. OKW is beautiful, you'll have great time.

First of all, no flames, but I really don't understand why ANYONE would consider a studio room at OKW to be a cardboard box!!! First of all, they have one of the largest bathrooms of any single room in all of Disney. There will also be a large closet, kitchenette, two queen beds, a table with two chairs and a balcony that includes two chairs. That is not true of some of the other rooms on Disney property.

Since your child is 2, he/she might be unable to sleep in the big queen sized bed, but there will also be a Pac-N-Play in the closet if that would be better.

A 2 bedroom truly would be overkill for your family at OKW. The second bedroom would be exactly like the studio you are already booked in, but you would have a master bedroom with a king bed, a Jacuzzi, seperate shower, a full kitchen, living room, large covered porch with a full table and chair set on it, round table big enough to seat 6, a love seat and queen size sofa bed. That's over 1400 sq ft of space!!! It also would triple the cost to your friends in points. If you choose to book a larger unit, you might offer to pay them for the extra points, provided they have enough points to do that in the first place. That would be the only way to do what you are proposing.

if your DH is insistant, let him know that you could turn down the studio, & pay for an OKW 2bdrm OOP (with the lowest 2bdrm cost, btw) ~ it would cost a mere $600-$1000 per night.

the might change his mind :)

I KNOW it is a generous gift and I hardly compare it to a cardboard box (I meant that I am not picky about accommidations as long as I am WDW - how nice that we will be in fantastic accommidations). We are just concerned about sleeping in the same room with DS, as both DH and I snore and tend to stay up a bit later. He is too big for a pack-n-play at almost 40 inches tall, so we are looking at having him sleep in the bed with me and DH in the other bed. I am hoping that DS is so tired that the snoring isn't a problem. I appreciate the straight-forward answers.

I wanted to add, just for a little clarification that this is the first time we have ever traveled with DS - he is 2ears, 2 mo old - pathetic, I know. I am really just a nervous mommy that has NO idea what to expect. I don't want to sound ungrateful, as that could not be further from the truth. I am just a worry wart...

Most children are wiped out by bedtime since WDW is so activity intensive. You and your husband can maybe sit out on the balcony and enjoy some time together when your child first goes to sleep. Oh, and we used to play the TV with the closed captioned channels so we could watch it when our children were sleeping in the same room, lol.

This was a big part of why we purchased DVC and enjoyed the privacy of 1 and 2 bedroom units. Maybe you can take the tour with your husband and check it out...

As Carol said - use it as quiet time out on the balcony with a bottle of wine and a candle (make sure you pack the candle) while he is asleep. And if you bring a wireless router - you can watch TV outside on a laptop too. Don't worry - he is gonna sleep after running around the parks and swimming in the pool.
