I have owned DVC for a year or so but I am still trying to get this use year thing and when to borrow/bank etc.

Our Use year is Oct.

We are planning a trip for Oct 2010. Is this considered 2009 points or 2010?

I ask because we are taking abig family trip next week and needed to borrow 2009 points so do I now need to borrow 2010?

It also shows I have 12 points left in my 2009...but can I bank these?

I may be in DVC point debt:rotfl:

Sounds like your using those points! :thumbsup2

An Oct 2010 trip with an Oct UY means that 2010 points will be the current points for the ressie so you will not be borrowing them. You will be able to bank your remaining 2009 points and use them towards that vacation. You must complete the banking by May 31, 2010. I'm not certain if you would be able to bank now or if you need to do it sometime between Oct 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010 when those points are current.

Hello Pixie08,
Your Oct 2010 trip would be using points from your October 2010 allocation. The 2010 points would not need to be borrowed since they become available on Oct. 1 2010 and your trip is after Oct. 1 2010. You can bank your 12 remaining points from the 2009 allocation so they can be used between Oct. 1, 2010 and Oct.1 , 2011. As long as your vacation is after Oct. 1, 2010, you can even borrow from the 2011 allocation.

Hope this helps!

FWIW, if you look in your membership online, you get hints.

I go to My Membership, then Vacation Points, and I have this big alert (with Feb Use Year):

# You may bank up to 100% of your Vacation Points for Member ID number lalalalala until the end of September 2009. Select the Bank Vacation Points link below to bank Vacation Points online or contact Member Services at lalalalalalalala.

# Currently, you may request a reservation for a Disney Cruise Line® vacation that has a sail date on or before June 16, 2011, some sailings may not be available for booking at the 24-month window.

# Currently, you may request a reservation at your Home Resort for vacations that have a check-in date on or before May 16, 2010, based upon availability.

# Currently, you may request a reservation at any Disney Vacation Club Resort for vacations that have a check-in date on or before January 16, 2010, based upon availability.

# This Use Year's remaining Vacation Points for Member ID number lalalalalalala will expire on the last business day of January 2010.

So you should have that similar info, except you'd have the last day of Sept mentioned, for your October UY, I believe.

Helpful place, it seems, the member site.:upsidedow

Thanks for your help everyone! I love my DVC (as you can see:rotfl:) I just need to master this!

bubmershoot...oh yes I do see that...it says i can not bank so i must be that I have to wait until OCt. This is fine because I can not make the ressie until nov! Thanks again.

I find it easiest to think of my points this way:

Your Oct 2009 points are valid for stays from 10/1/2009 - 9/30/2010
Your Oct 2010 points are valid for stays from 10/1/2010 - 9/30/2011
Your Oct 2011 points are valid for stays from 10/1/2011 - 9/30/2012
and so on until the end of your contract

A vacation in Oct 2010 falls within your Oct 2010 Use Year so the only points that can be used are points that are in your 2010 Use Year. That could be Oct 2010 points or points banked from your Oct 2009 UY into your 2010 UY or points borrowed from your Oct 2011 UY into your Oct 2010 UY.

It also shows I have 12 points left in my 2009...but can I bank these?
Your deadline to bank those points will be May 31, 2010. You can bank up to 100% of your points during the first 8 months of your Use Year which is Oct 1 - May 31 in your case. They probably will not let you bank them until your 2009 begins on Oct 1, 2009.
