I've always been the type to try before buying so i've rented points for a stay at BWV? I do understand that there is a trust that goes both ways but i was wondering if there is a way to call and make sure the reservation still exist when we get closer to the date. I would hate to arrive and not have a place to stay. I know many of you don't like the idea of renters but i promise to take care of your home and i won't leave my trash in the hallway. I just need some help with the above and hopefully if all goes well we will join the DVC family.

My personal view is that you should have an agreement with the member regarding the reservation, payment, changes, cancellation and the like.

The member retains control of the reservation, but should send you the confirmation notice or at least give you the reservation number so that you can call the resort to confirm it. Member Services may not deal with you since you are not a member.

Some use a three way call (member, renter, member services) when the reservation is made.

Enjoy your stay. Many who rent become hooked and join.

I've recently rented points for an August visit and have no qualms at all...the DVC member is a DIS member and we've exchanged many emails, etc. She has been SO very helpful from the beginning and always offers to help by calling Disney, etc. (If you're reading this post (you know who you are)...thanks again!!!)

I lurked on this board and and asked alot of questions for quite some time before renting and honestly never saw a poster say they paid and did not end up having a reservation.

Yes you can call MS to check the res., before buying I rented points to try out DVC, loved it and have purchased since then. The res. should be in your name and you can call with the res. # and verify all the info. Enjoy and you will probably end up like me and buying into the Magic for yourself.

I tried to call yesterday to request a certain room, but they would not talk to me if I was not the member...even with my reservation number. Maybe it depends on who answers the phone there!

MS is not supposed to discuss anything about a reservation without the member number. Changes and requests should really be made by the member for you. Some renters have gotten past the membership number requirement due the generosity (or ignorance) of the CM on the phone.

You can call the resort directly with the reservation number (let them know it is a DVC point reservation) to verify the reservation. I suppose you can also make requests via that method.

Enjoy!

This is the info i needed. I didn't want to call MS because i didn't feel right using them because i'm not a member. I'm really not worried as i believe i'm dealing with an honest dismember and i do have the confirmation letter but this was done back in Jan at the 11 month window(xmas reservation)and sometimes mistakes get made and i always double check any reservation when we get close to the date. Do you think it's to early to check this directly with the hotel?

Requests can be made and added by calling the resort with the member number. You can call when MS is closed and do all kinds of things with the front desk and a reservation number.

Please don't take anti-renting comments the wrong way. Renting is a great thing. Its great for the owner to be able to recoup costs when he can't use the points. Its great for the guest also, he gets a great room at a great price and gets to see DVC up close. We get lots of new members this way, new members keeps the price up.

Renting is a win-win deal.

What you will see complaints about is people that rent points as a business. People who reserve choice times for sale on Ebay. people who rent only Sun-Thurs. These things are arguably permitted under our contracts, but are also examples of pedestrian behaviour. Really not someone I want to be sharing my 'Home' with.

You are more than welcome.

While you are test driving, go over to OKW, go early, tell them that you are thinking of buying and you heard that OKW had the best accomodations of all DVC resorts and you would really love to see a room, any room. Its very likely that they will let you.

After that, you will probably want OKW as your home resort, its very available through resale.

I remember reading about someone that called the front desk, I believe it was OKW, they called on a weekend or holiday, there was availability and they were able to use points.

Anyone else recall that?
