Im a bit confused...can you all help me out? We met with a SM in Jan, and went on a site visit. DD picked WP and LS, which were both open for her tenative date (end of March 07).

We called the SM just to confirm everything when we got home, telling her what date/time/locations DD picked. Now I know the next thing is the contract which is signed 1 yr from the date. So does that mean we call 1st thing in the morning on the date she wants for '07 and they hold it tentatively for the return of the signed contract, or do we ask them to send the contract now and have it sent overnight so it arrives at DFTW on the date? I know this shouldnt be confusing, but I am. (And this is just the beginning Im sure...) I sent an email to the SM last week and she hasnt replied yet.

Send another email...the folks at DFTW are busy, but you should get a response usually within 24 hours or so (even if it's just a message that they'll get back to you).

I'm not positive how it works with custom weddings, but from what I've heard you will call and book your date exactly 1 year out. If more than one bride wants the exact date, time, and location they'll do a "lottery". If your DD can be a little flexible with the time then you should be okay with the date and location. I think you don't actually sign the contract until 8 months out, but I could be off on that.

I'm sure others will chime in with how it worked for them...

My date was Nov 10- I called the end of Oct- and the SM said she could tenatively put us down for the location. On the 10th of this year she emailed me saying that we got the date then 2-3 wks we got the contract. Now I understand from others on this board that customs can be "put down" 18 mo out and then if more than one couple wants the day/time/ location, then they do a lottery, my day I guess no one else wanted the time, can anyone confirm?

yes i was told the same. I put my name down about 15months before my date. On the 1 year mark they emailed to say that no one else had requested my date so it was confirmed then. if more than one person is after a slot they hold a lottery to see who will get it. Your contract is usually sent out to be signed around the 8 month mark!

As long as your SM has your date (which you said she does) you are kept on file and when the date arrives they will book you in for the WP and LS. (asuming that no-one else requests the same date and they still have time as there is still a few weeks until the end of March) then you will hear within a few days if everything is confirmed.

After you are confirmed you will set up your room block with your SM,(if you know what rooms you need and how many etc. this will help speed the process up) and then the contract is sent out around 3 weeks later,(you sign at 12 months as you are an in park wedding) you sign and send back.

If you don't hear back from the SM in the next couple of days, email again just asking if anyone else has requested those dates.

I am at the Wp and Ls. We put our names down about 15 months before to get ready for the lottery. I stayed in constant contact with my sm through email up until the year mark. A few days before she called and said we might be bumped but not to worry. ON the day of the year mark she called me and said we got it and we were penciled in. Because your DD is an in-park wedding you can sign at the 1 year mark - which is a plus and why we chose an in park wedding. About 1 week after that we got the contract sent to us. We signed it and sent it off with our 1k deposit. We got a call confirming it was received and that we were official. HTH

your DD chose great locations :)

Thanks everyone - We will send another email to the SM just to be sure and ask if anyone else is looking at her date and time. Its good to know that its the conversation not the contract that has to take place on the 1 yr anniversary. One of the big reasons DD picked LS over locations at the GF was to get locked in 1 yr out, she was afraid of being bumped.
