Please guide me- Buy AP's??

Confused here! Could you please help me out of the fog.
Usually we book thru AAA
Now I am considering buying AP's, then I can get back twice next year with my Dh and kids

So tell me how does it works with the dining plan.
Are there AP room only discounts often? restrictions? Can we add dining?

I have been trying to figure this out but am going in circles
Already booked next trip for Nov 1-8 thru AAA, but there's alot of time before them

I haven't heard of AP discounts on dining myself (which doesn't mean they don't exist, of course), only on rooms. And I gather there's typically a limited number of AP discounts for just about any range of dates and resorts depending on availability of rooms. So I think getting a room discount depends on 1) staying in tune with this board and others to jump on any AP discounts as soon as they are announced before the run out and 2) getting lucky that a discount applies to the hotel you plan to stay in (assuming you don't want to change).

But I'm not actually an AP holder myself, so there are probably others here who could help you more than I can.

If I were you I'd wait until your time actually comes around then see if any codes are available for your dates. For example, we usually go in June and AP codes come out in April or May for our timeframe. I go ahead and book what I want now, add the code if it applies or change resorts if necessary. Then order our AP vouchers. We buy the DDE which you can now get at Guest Services when you arrive. This saves 20% on table service and a few counter service locations. You don't have to actually have your AP when your reserve the room, but be prepared to show it at check in, or at least a voucher which you get thru the mail.
