Please give me the low down on discount codes?

Have been hearing about discount codes here and there. Have no clue what they are, how you get them or whether they could apply to me. I already have a room only ressie which I plan to change to a pkg when rates comes out. Can I still use a discount code and if so, where in the world do I get one and how do I use it?

Any info will be much appreciated. Thank you!
