Please explain Roku boxes to me

I know they play Netflix streaming, but do they play Hulu as well?

I would love to download last night's episode of whatever to watch the next day on the TV and not the computer.

well I dont know a whole lot yet, I am purchasing the roku which has hulu plus for 7.99. It also has MLB not sure how much that is. I also have netflix. So I figure between the two programs I am still saving alot of money not paying cable.

We have one upstairs and love it. I think you have to have Hulu Plus for $10/month to get it on the roku. You can rent things off Amazon on there. The quality and ease of use is very nice!

We love ours and have it instead of cable. We actually have two - one in the living room and one in the bedroom. You have to have subscriptions for Hulu and Netflix to watch them. They don't download to the box, they stream directly when you select them to watch. Netflix remembers where you are if you pause a movie/show.

There are also some free channels (we like the Roku News Channel they have). You can also view your facebook photos, stream music from Pandora, etc.

I am also interested in these Roku boxes but I do not know anything about them. I've never used netflix or hulu, but this sounds so much cheaper than directv. Can someone give me the run down on how this works? What is the difference between hulu and netflix? Will I want both?
How up to date are the shows available? What am I going to "miss" about directv?

Is it easy to use? Lots of movies available? And shows? I like to watch House, Glee, CSI, NCIS, Ghost Adventures, etc...

Is everything old, or do they get new episodes fairly quickly? Say when American Idol comes back on, how long will it take to get episodes?

And does it depend on what type of internet connection I have as to how well netflix or hulu work?? Am I going to be watching a movie and then have to wait while it loads (kinda like youtube videos sometimes?). My connection is DSL.
