AGAIN WITH ANOTHER BASIC QUESTION I KNOW!!

In reading some of the posts, I am seeing people who buy at several different resorts and I wanted to see if anyone could give me the reasoning behind this. For example if Ihad 150 points at BCV, why not just add on 150 points there instead of buying a second 150 at BWVfor example? can I use the BWV points as my second 150 when booking a 300 point stay at BCV? I know I am missing something basic here, but I can't see it, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

The reason that people buy at several resorts are varied.

One reason is that if someone wants to alternate their stay at say BCV and BWV then they are assured of the 11 month window at their resort. This can be done by banking points and going every other year.

Some people buy at VB and HH for MB but only want to use those points to trade to II, DCL or stay at a non-DVC peoperty.

Hey St. Louis neighbor!!!!!!

I THINK the reason is that you can do the every other year stay (for change of pace) with home resort advantage.

Say you have 150 at BCV and 150 at VWL. You would bank your VWL for a year while you do BCV at 11 month and then the next year you would have 300 points at 11 month window at VWL.

From what I've read here and what my guide said...you only get the 11 month priority window at the resort where your points are. meaning you couldn't use your vwl points to get 11 months at BCV.

I hope that helps!

We have all our points at VWL and it works for us. But I can see the fun of having different resorts so you can switch off and still have 11 month window.

We now own at 3 resorts.... OKW, where the bulk of our points are.... BCV, A smaller contract to be used every 2 or 3 years, and BWV, a medium sized contract we will use every 2 or 3 years also.

We want the 11 month window at all these resorts! OKW and BWV to get the Grand villas, and BCV for the Food and Wine fest.

Plus you can combine different resort contracts for cruising, COncierge collection and such at the 11 month window.

Hope that info helps you decide!

I own at OKW and am in the process of closing at BWV. The reason I bought at OKW was because it was cheaper than buying BWV from Disney and the maintenance was lower. Also, my resale included free passes to WDW until 12/99.

We bought at BWV to have the 11 month window for New Year's Eve.

The 11th month window was the reason we recently bought a resale at BWV. The majority of our points are at OKW. Our plan is every other year T'giving with the family at OKW. The bigger rooms there accommodate our family better. DH and I like to get away in late winter and BWV is perfect for the two of us.

When your home resort is sold out, adding on at another resort is the only option.

We did just that at VWL right before it sold out. We now have 2 "homes" to look forward to visiting, OKW and VWL, both with the same use year which is what we wanted.

We wanted to be able to book at 11 months out at both resorts we call "home". For the time being we will go twice a year in a studio. We need the 11 month window to get VWL the week after Thanksgiving and the BWV around Memorial Day. In the future, when we need a larger unit, we will use banking/borrowing to alternate resorts each year and book at 11 months out so we can get what we want and maximize our points by getting standard view at BWV when we stay there. There were things we loved about both VWL and BWV, so why be tied to only one? Two contracts gives you a lot of flexibility. It cost us a little more in closing costs at we had to pay it on 2 resales, but it was well worth it.

The 11 month window is the key. Especially when you try to go at the busier times of year-like Spring Break.

I am another for the 11 month window/aleternating between years. My DW and I love the VWL and BCV for the contrasting nature. Now we can alternate each year without worrying about waitlisting at either resort.

Good luck

I really have no idea why anyone would own anywhere other Than OKW.

Well then Rich, I guess that means that you're not interested in this topic and will leave this discussion to the rest of us who do own at more than one resort.:)

Doesn't that pesky OKW guy also own at BWV ;). I could be wrong. Maybe that was another one of "those people" that think OKW is the only "true" DVC resort..........:):):):):)

As a lot of people have already mentioned, for us it was the 11 month window for holiday weeks, when needed. And for VB in the winter months, I think it will be harder to get ressies there unless you have the 11 month booking window.

We own 300 points at OKW. We also own 100 at VWL and 100 at BCV. We used to go to Yellowstone a lot when we lived in Montana and VWL is close to that, so we will use our points there to stay every other year or every three years. We wanted to be able to swim at SAB, so we bought at BCV. Same concept, every two or three years. And we need the 11 month window.

BEATS ME?????

I think that some DISers just lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve to play with spreadsheets:D :D :D :D :D :D
