Please explain purchasing TV shows from itunes vs. Amazon to me

Ok, as I understand it, if I purcahse TV shows and movies on itunes, I can watch on my ipad even without internet access as it is purchased onto my account and saved in my memory.

Is this the same with Amazon.com purchases or do I have to stream those?

I have an ipad and really want to purchase a couple of TV show series' to play on the Roku box, but I would love the option to watch it on my ipad as well.

It stinks that Apple TV doesn't support HuluPlus as that was the deciding factor in purchasing Roku instead of Apple TV.

You have to stream Amazon purchases (rentals); you can't put these on your iPad.

I hate that they aren't compatible. I can't stream itunes movies to my Roku either, which stinks.

If Apple would come out with a 1080p box that would stream HuluPlus I would go to Apple TV.
