Please enlighten me!
We've been Disney loyal customers for YEARS and have stayed on average at LEAST twice a year in addition to Disneyland and Disney Cruises.
We've never gotten any emails or promotion cards in the mail like folks are talking about. We are not AP or Disney Visa card holders (maybe we should be~!) but are we missing something here?

How do we go about getting codes, etc.?
We are thinking about a Jan. stay for a tournament we are attending.
When would we look for a room only code for that?

Thank you with humbleness for helping me out! :flower3:

I thought I knew a lot about Disney, but the expensive way! (I guess full price! ) I need to know the ins and outs of saving $ if my Disney career is to continue!

Thank you!

I understand how you feel. We visit pretty often, but had never gotten codes before...until today. This is what I just posted this morning... maybe it will help your chances???

"Hello all! I just got an email with a pin code. I started poking around about a week ago looking for deals before our honeymoon in October. I was on the WDW website and could not figure out how to update my account, so I started a new one with my new email address. I also was pricing out my dates, but never books. Today I got an email from Disney Destinations titled, "Explore your Resort Picks". It included a 20% off pin. Unfortunately, my dates are excluded from the pin. Oh well. Thought I would put it out there for any of you who might want to increase your chances of getting a code. I don't know if it will work, but it might be worth a try."

We go every year (since 2001) and have yet to get a code :sad2:. I just chalk it up to Disney seeing no need to entice us with a code since we go regularly regardless :confused3. But I must add that beginning with our stay in 2003, we have always gone when Disney was running some kind of special for the general public; but we have never gotten a 20, 30, or 40% off code that alot of people report getting :sad1:. I just keep my fingers crossed that one of these days a code will come and I can use it :rolleyes1. But until then, I will keep booking our Disney trips hoping for some sort of code or special :). So...with that said....just keep looking for emails or post cards in the mail....one of these days might be your lucky day ;). You could also try getting a new email address and registering that; or order the planning DVD....some have reported getting a code after doing that :dance3:.

If you are interested in a room only code for January and are a AAA member, the AAA rates should be available this summer, once the rates for 2009 are released. You don't need to do anything special to get the AAA discount, other than calling before they are all gone for your resort/dates. If you want a code from disney, you need to make sure that you are registered on their web site. It may not be enough to have given them your e-mail when making a previous reservation. When on the web site, be sure to check the boxes that state that you want offers and information from disney. This does not guarantee a code, but does up the chances.

Thank you so much for the information!

I will check on AAA discount rates when the 2009 prices come out...does anyone know when that is? Can you book then too for 2009?

I did go back on their website and checked the boxes!
Thanks for the tip! :)

Why haven't you purchased an Annual Pass? With it, you not only get room discounts, but merchandise and Disney Dining Experience eligibility. Codes are great, but they aren't always better than AP discounts and usually have more limited date requirements. I have never heard of a pin code that gives free park admission either which is necessary unless you go so often just for the resorts.

I was one of those people too who felt they were missing out by not getting a code. But truth is, when I finally got my first one, I didn't use it. AP rates or other specials eventually came out that were comparable, but more flexible than either of the codes I received.

Codes are great, but there are plenty of other ways to save.

 Thank you for your insight...
I would love to get APs for our family and think we would definately benefit from them and save A LOT of money doing it that way. But here goes...
For as much as we do Disney, we never set out for it to happen that way each year... By getting APs my DH would feel like committing to Disney only and he keeps saying he's had enough. But yet....we get the itch and there we are again for one reason or another!
One day, my prince will come.... and deliver the APs to us! :lmao:
Thank you, it's good advice... I will keep it as one of my goals!
:)

You can book a room only reservation now for much of 2009. You need to call disney directly to make the reservation, can't use the web site. Then in the summer when the AAA rates are released, you can call back to disney and see if a AAA discount is available for the reservation. If so, they will apply it to your reservation and you will get the discounted rate. You can book 499 days in advance, so for January you certainly can book a room only reservation now.

I was looking for it on line...that is why I wasn't seeing it.
Thank you! :)

We have AAA and usually have good luck getting that discount. We have APs and we aren't very lucky in getting that discount. We have NEVER gotten a postcard or e-mail discount.

I decided yesterday that I give up. We bought DVC.

Also remember:

1) You can call and check on AP rates for the dates you are going BEFORE you buy the AP. (You must activate it before check-in. But I've done that literally on the way to the resort.)

2) You only need 1 AP per room booked. That's much less of a commitment than buying for the entire family. Crunch the numbers--It obviously depends on the discount and hotel category, but if you stay at a Deluxe at rack rate more than 4 nights, the savings there alone pays for the AP.

You guys, I can't believe how helpful you have been! I felt silly asking the question, but I'm glad I did. The fact that you only need one AP is awesome...it makes sense for me as well because I will be doing a few separate trips with different kids for differnt reasons....
I'm so grateful to you all! :)
