Hi!

We will be in WDW in January 2009. I will have a single room, and my Brother will share a room with my SIL. I have an idea about the new Counter Service Dining Plan:

If I book a package with CS Dining and they book without, would it be possible to share the meal credits? I mean I could just go to the CS restaurant with my KTTW card and buy 3 meals from my Dining Plan, right? And could I just go to an ice cream cart and order 3 Mickey Bars from my Snack credits and then hand 2 of them over to my brother and SIL who are not on the Dining Plan?

Would this be at all possible to do? Would it be considered unfair behavior? Is this forbidden by Disney?

Please do not hate me for asking this. I would be very happy to hear your opinions about it. TIA

I don't see why you couldn't do that, and I don't see anything wrong with it, but I'd check the prices on menus for CS dining first. To me, the cost of the new CS plan seems higher than just paying for CS meals out of pocket.

I really can't think of any problems with doing CS and snacks that way. Me and my GF often pick off of each others plates and share drinks.

Are the Snack Credit Police going to snatch the food out of your hands?

1. Disney rules prohibit sharing of meals with people not on the plan
2. Your KTTW card will show the number of people in your party (i.e. ONE) and you will only be allowed to order that number of meals.

I have a feeling Disney has already taken into account that people might think of this scenario and has adjusted the price of the CS plan accordingly. That said, as was mentioned you are only able to order the amt. of meals for the amt. of guests listed on the card- at one time. That doesn't prohibit you from going through a line more than once, or buying multiple snacks at one time since people often buy say..a coke and box of popcorn using 2 credits. Even though it's not allowed officially, I don't know if it would truly not be possible...so there's my nebulous thought, lol.---Kathy

Why would you do that? You would only have enough meals for 2 days, if you were going for 7 days, if they do a DDP with 2 CS meals a day and each of you were getting a meal. It really doesn't seem worth it to me, so in the long run you would still be buying food for the next 5 day..

I don't understand why this would be a good idea? you get 2 CS a day. If you buy 3 of them at a time you are gonna get less meals than days you are there

Plus as the PP said, you will have to stand in line 3 times. They only allow you the number of meals equal to the # of guests in your room at one time.

I bet you can do it. It's not cheating anybody out of anything. The number of total meals you get are "to use any way you like, in any order you choose." The cm seeing you have 1 adult on the meal plan, and only letting you order 1 meal has never happened to me. If I want to order "all 10" of my counter service meals at once, a manager at Sunshine Seasons told me that was my choice. I know this plan is dynamic, who knows what 2009 will be like in actual logistics.

Hi!

Thank you all for your resoponses! The idea was that we will be staying all the time at DW and visiting off site attractions from there. So a real Dining Plan would get us too many meals because we would not be at DW each day. But thanks to your answers, I now understand how the system works and have decided to pay OOP for our meals.

It's against WDW policy to share your dining plan meals with people who are not on your dining plan reservation. You may be able to order as many meals as you want at once, but you are not supposed to share them with anyone who didn't buy the plan. I am sure you can see why they'd have such a policy.

This is not what was intended and Disney makes it known that sharing with people who are not on the plan is not allowed.

That said I can't see the DDP Police hunting you down and working you over.

Understand that Disney can track abuses of the dining plans and this may ruin it in the future for the people who come after you.

Yes it does say on the offical website that you are not supposed to share dining plan credits with those not on the dining plan. However since I am paying for these credits I feel that I should be able to use them however I so choose. (This is not any different than those of you giving away your snacks that you bought with your snack credits. ) Also as others have said Disney is not going to be watching every step you make. If you dont mind going through a line more than once or even going to two different counter service locations (which is probably what I would do) they are not going to be able to know who is eating the actual meal. Table service credits are a whole lot easier for them to track. However how many times has anyone been asked for ID at a table service restaurant. I know we never were last year unless you order an alcoholic drink of course. Therefore if I so chose to I could have given away credits for this as well.

I have been told "No" when I tried to order an extra CS meal. DH and I were at Flame Tree BBQ. We each ordered some ribs, and we wanted to order the Fruit plate to share. We were told "no that's 3 entrees and you are only entitled to 2" I had plenty of credits available as this was the first day of my trip. DH promptly got in the next line and ordered the fruit plate.


We love the Flame Tree Fruit Plate!

I guess it depends on the CM.

So you're fully aware of the restrictions of the DDP, but you feel you should be exempt from those restrictions?

It doesn't matter that you are paying for the credits, Disney still gets to set the terms of use of the credits they are selling you.

I know this has been debated many times before, but I honestly don't know why it would make a difference! Our first time on the DDP was in 2006. It was an all girls (4 of us) trip initially, but my husband decided to go at the last minute. We got another room, but we didn't add him to the dining plan. Before I get flamed, I really didn't know we weren't allowed to share credits. We were never questioned, not at table service or counter service. Fast forward to next year, we might be in the same position. My husband isn't planning to go, but who knows? However, I am a rule follower, so we won't do the unthinkable, we'll add him to the plan!

What do they do if you have snack credits left over at the end of your trip and want to use them all at once on the last day, at the last minute, right before the park closes! Will you lose your snack credits because there are only 2 of you and you have 8 snack credits left?

Yes I am fully aware of the terms of the dining plan as stated in my previous post. I have not ever had a need to go beyond these terms myself (except for sharing with my 2 year old- which I asked and was told this would be fine since we could not buy a plan with him being under 3) however if I did have a need I would have no problem giving a counter service meal for which I paid for to someone else. This is no different than those of you that buy up all of your snack credits on the last day to take home as gifts for others not on your dining plan. I do not consider either of these situations wrong nor stealing from Disney in any way. When you pay for the dining plan you are more than paying enough to cover any and all food. (How many other places do you go to in reg. life and have to pay $20-30 for two people to eat fast food? Not very many unless you are in a tourist trap.) I think the KEY here is we are Paying for this plan unlike in other situations where people are directly stealing from Disney! I usually do not reply to these controversial topics however I have sat back and read enough of these threads without responding to the "moral police" some of whom are breaking the rules just as much if not more. I do not think it should concern Disney at all how many credits I nor anyone else choose to use at a time. Nor should it matter to them if we choose to give our credits away. Any local amusement parks I go to that has had similar counter service meals have never had such a policy. Why would they so long as you paid for it? After all last time I checked we were supposed to be living in a free country. So long as we are paying for it and not breaking any laws it should not matter. Disney is getting more and more greedy and less family friendly every year that goes by. Part of Walt Disney's dream was to create an affordable family friendly place to go. I think it is safe to say this is not the case. The majority of people in this country can not afford a Disney vacation and another significant number can only afford one trip in their lifetime if they are lucky. They nickel and dime you everywhere in that park. God forbid if someone were to share a meal or a dining credit with someone else. My post is long enough therefore I will get off my soapbox for now.

Note to the Moral police: there are many more important issues in this world to worry about and to spend your time on than worrying about who is and isnt following Disney's policies to the letter. Unless you are perfect you should not be sitting in judgement of others.

Allison: I think if someone were to push that right legally Disney may or may not have a leg to stand on. Yes! Yes! I know a big company like Disney pretty much gets away with whatever they want in this country unless you have the money to fight them. I feel that if I am paying for something it is my right to use that item in any way I want to (so long as I am not breaking the law doing so) and if I can not than they are stealing from me. It would be like any fast food restaurant telling me that I can not share my fries of which I paid for with my son-(which we do often) and insisting that I pay for another box full of which half he would not eat. This would be an entirely different situation if it were free refills with purchase or a buffet but this is not the case. Under those two situations than yes I would consider it stealing and see a need for enforcement. However Disney does not even enforce this totally (buffets a 2 year old eats free/refillable mugs- no enforcement) so why to heck do they care if I share my dining plan credits for which I paid for with someone else not on the plan. The only real answer to that question is pure GREED! Lets face it most 2 year olds dont eat much and they get their soda from Coke really cheap if not free therefore they do not feel the need to enforce this- not enough profit in it for them/it would cost more to enforce this. The mugs alone would require them to hire more CMs.

Teacher: I totally agree with you on the snacks as I have posted previously. We were even told by a disney company representative (to be clear:not on the phone we were told this in person at a AAA presentation about Disney World and the Cruise Lines-she was a disney company representative not a AAA agent)before going last year that you can use your credits any way you wish/however many you wish at any one time. I think this is another one of those policies that Disney has just in case but does not enforce it or rarely enforces it.

Guys, the OP has already come back and stated she now understands how the plan works and is going to pay OOP. Is it necessary to keep debating with each other and beating her down when this has already been resolved?
