Asking a favor of all of the community board posters, when planning questions related to Vegas, San Fransico, LA, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Monterey etc get asked on this board, please help the moderators remind posters that we have official planning boards for these locations.
We all know to gently steer posters to all of our WDW and Universal planning board......we need to do the same for our DLR, Southern CA, and CA and the west boards. That way they can bloom and become a very valuable part of the DIS. Also, all you experts please drop by and add to the content.........and for all who can never get enough trip reports, we have two different boards full of them!:surfweb:

Bumping! I try to do this when I see them.

there is a cooking board also, yet all the recipe requests primarily wind up on the CB.......

I know when I've tried posting requests on the specialist boards, I might get one response if I'm lucky. Post it here and you'll have 5 pages of answers!

I didn't even know there was a Vegas board until yesterday. If it isn't on the main list, I probably don't know it exists. I only find out about them when threads are redirected and I click on them.

I think a lot of folks ask on the CB because they "know" the CBers. They want feedback from those folks...not the strangers on a sub-board (assuming they even know the sub-board exists.) You probably get more replies on the CB, too.

If Bavaria or Buckalew (or Mushy, now that I see she's above me) was at Hilton Head, I really want their feedback. If poopiehead178 was there, I don't care much, KWIM?

But I'll try. Honest to oranges.

I'll echo Cool-Beans' point.

This morning, I popped into the DLP forum. I did a search and read through several of the threads trying to find my answer. I didn't find the answer and came to the conclusion that the people over their were way to angsty for a trip planning board, so I took my issue to Google. If it were a question that I thought a number of people over here would be able to quickly answer, I probably would have started a thread in CB.

(I also had no clue that there were forums for all those other places.)

Go to the top of this page and click on "The DIS Discussion Forums-DISboards.com" on the left. That will take you to our main Forum listing page. From there you can see most of the Forums listed. Subforums show up if you just click the general catagory. Judy is specifically talking about our forums found in the Disneyland catagory.

there are other boards?
I'll I know are CB and photo. Heheheheheee

Mikeeee

I had no idea about these other boards and, frankly, I would not have known to look for them under "Disney Land." :confused3 Excuse me, that should be "Disneyland."

I just went and looked and, by golly, there they are! I wish I would have known about them sooner, as my son, mom, and dad are driving out there in an RV. They're in Colorado now, but are headed to the Grand Canyon.

You know what, I really hate that when those posts get moved over there. I NEVER, EVER go to that board. NEVER. I always felt like the Cooking Forum was a "specialty" or "hobby" board...like the photography or VMK. Cooking is not my hobby...it's what I do to feed my family. If somebody posts a great recipe on this board I will probably look at it and I might even make it (I made C.Ann's lemon snowflake cookies at Christmas, for example). If it's on the cooking forum, I won't even see it.

I don't think they move anything from this board to any other board, as the community board is not topic specific. Any topic can be posted on the community board, as long as it meets general dis guidelines. Back in '03, they drove a lot of folks away from the boards for good, (I know my DW, Marie, is an example) when they created a firestorm here with moving thread after thread from here to boards that were more topical for those threads. People were understandably confused and upset, knowing they could post anything on the community board (within general dis guidelines) but they were moving them left and right during that summer. :confused3 Since that fiasco, I don't think they do that anymore. However, I do think all the other boards are topic specific and do get threads moved from one to another. I think only the community board does not get threads moved from it, though sometimes to it.

What I think Judy was saying/asking, was that there are other boards (I never knew those were there either till now) and to maybe keep them in mind when making a post/question that might fit in there too.

I know what C-B means above also. People get very comfortable with the interaction on the community board and with its huge daily posting volume and poster visits, virtually any question on any topic can and will be answered here, typically in great volume. I know if I have had a question on anything the past ten years, I can ask it here and get many answers and opinions. But I do also post, when I know a board exists for a particular question, on that board also (not instead of), though typically get many fewer responses, but they are additional and generally very good also.

LOL, that's how I felt, too. Like those people are way more into it than I am - I don't belong there.

Sort of like how I really enjoy "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" on TV. I'll even watch the DVDs. But I wouldn't go to one of those conventions. Not that into it; don't belong there.

But maybe we should check them out? I dunno.

Uh oh! I might be in trouble here then.. (See bolded part..) But quite frankly, if the recipes aren't welcome here on the CB, I'll just stop posting them.. Why? Because as FayeW pointed out, I see the cooking board as more of a "hobby" sort of thing - for big time serious cooks.. I post my recipes here for friends - those who might want to try something new or need a special dessert for an upcoming event or are craving a midnight snack.. How many people are going to hop on over to the cooking board to look for those types of things? My guess would be very few..

In a "community" people share those types of things all the time - "What's your favorite brownie recipe?" - "Do you have an unusual cake recipe I can make for Joey's birthday?" - etc..

However, if it's going to be a problem - and is against the board rules to post those recipes here (or over on the Budget Board where people are always requesting budget meals and budget recipes), let me know and I'll stop posting them..

Thanks! :goodvibes

I know I posted a couple of recipes on different threads that got moved to the cooking board. I generally only post on this forum, the Canadian forum and the Offsite forum, so I am pretty sure the threads they moved originated on the CB. I know I posted a recipe and someone said they were going to try it, so I was watching for it to see if they liked it, and it was moved.

PS: C.Ann, the cookies were a hit! My husband and my friend's family loved them!

Unless they changed the guidelines, (quoted below and current as of a moment ago), they should not move any thread from the community board to another board here. From any other board, to another board, including to the community board, yes, if not topical for that topic specific board, but not from the community board.

Again, they may have changed the rules, but that guideline quoted below has been the same words for the over ten years I have been around here.

Join our moderators in a discussion forum for any topic, Disney or otherwise. Swap stories, information, ask questions...just be friendly :)

I do know when I did a couple years of moderating on this board, many years back, I sometimes would copy a thread from this board to another, more topic specific, but only to give it more possible exposure for the OP, and, if I did that, I would always post on the thread that I was copying it for that reason, so the OP would know to look there also. And when there was still a debate board here (long gone also), I would sometimes move a thread from the community board to the debate board whe nit reach a totally argumentative state. Now they just close them.

That's why it irritated me so much! Now I am going to have to go find that thread and see where it originated, to satisfy my curiosity!
