Living in a border city, I eat now and then in Michigan and they don't have white vinegar. I remember on our last trip to Florida, asking for white vinegar, and getting a look like we were off our rockers. So I was surprised to see several restaurants in Georgia and Florida (including SeaWorld) with white vinegar! Is white vinegar finally becoming a staple in the US?

lol We've been finding that in all of our US visits for years! They always gave us a funny look like we were nuts, when we asked for vinegar for our fries. :rotfl2:

I always take packets from home with us in our luggage and put them in my fanny pack when going through the parks etc. Although at WDW I did see a few counter service restaurants with malt vinegar pkgs.and I like that vinegar too.

I guess white vinegar is only used for washing floors etc! lol :rolleyes2

I don't use vinegar but my mother does, and has been with me on my last 2 trips, so I know the looks you mean. :rotfl:

Myst

Yes our kids all love white vinegar and we are starting to see places along I75 that actually have it for us. I guess they are finally getting the hint that Canadians like white vinegar on their fries.

That happened to me at the Prime Time cafe. I asked for vinegar and she said ahh you must be from Canada. They had Red Wine Vinegar only. So I took what I could get and actually it wasnt that bad.

I asked for it once, and the response I got was "I think we have a jug of it under the sink in the kitchen for cleaning ... want me to pour some in a cup for ya?" Now I just stock up when we go to Harvey's or McD's before our trip :rotfl2:

Hopefully they'll all get on board with the program!

Well sad to say the Disney hasn't caught on yet. We just returned and still no white vinegar and my supply ran out

We use white vinegar here. It just isn't common to put it on fries. I never even heard of that until I started going to WDW.

In my family we use vinegar on our collard, turnip, or mustard greens. There are a few other dishes we use it for, but never ever on french fries.

I like to dip my Ruffle potato chips in it... :)

I love the vinegar with fries thing when I go to Canada...(but hard to find the really good red wine vinegar -usually its just the white stuff).

...I realize you many of you miss the vinegar in the US, but keep in mind these local food customs work both ways...example - I'm always seeking a place that serves salsa with scrambled eggs/omelets etc.. (SO much better than ketchup!!) and frankly it's hard to find in Canada. Also, the best thing on the Mickey D's menu at breakfast - the breakfast burrito - is "not available" in Canada...a travesty!

As a teenager I worked in a restaurant that had many American tourists come up for the local hunting & fishing. You had your regular questions you asked with every meal, and they would laugh at me so much whenever I asked if they wanted gravy on their fries. Many times I was told that "it must be a Canada Hick thing". (By the way, gravy is great on pizza pops too)

Through 4-H we had exchange students come stay with us, and they couldn't get over the variety of flavours we have for pototao chips either. I guess with our long winters, we spend more time experimenting with foods! :rotfl2:

I love vinegar on my fries and if they are the big fries I love the brown malt vinegar. I also like to make a mixture of mayo and ketchup and dip my fries into that.....yummy ( European thing).

To Jersey Shark, we may not have the breakfast burrito yet ( and it is good) but our Mcmuffins are made with real muffins instead of biscuits that crumble and fall apart :sad2: But I do love the cornmeal biscuits at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant and store!!

I guess its just a case of.......Viva la difference!! ::yes::

I have spent alot of my life in the U.S. and always found I got a funny look when asking for white vinegar or poutine as well!! The funniest time I remember was when the waitress asked the guy cleaning the window to come over and give me a spray or two of his bottle (vinegar). I declined however and just used ketchup. But almost cried I was laughing so hard.

:rotfl: DH does this too! Forget the Salt and Vinegar chips - just do it yourself!

I'm not a big vinegar person, but DH has had his difficulties living down here with his fries. We stocked up on the packets from Harveys once too :teeth:

Mmmmmm..... another one here that loves to sprinkle (sometimes pour ;)) vinegar on plain potato chips! :rolleyes1
