I was a bit apprehensive watching this last night with a new Doctor, but it was really good. Even DD who is a huge David Tennant fan enjoyed it.

But then again I shouldn't be too shocked as I've watched and enjoyed most of the Doctors since Patrick Troughton (Oh my goodness - I feel sooo old!!)

Did anyone else see it?

Yep, I enjoyed it too, though I think Matt Smith's Doctor will take a bit of getting used to (I felt the same when David Tennant took over). The upcoming episodes look great, and it was good to see that River Song will be making an appearance too :)

I'm a HUGE Who fan, and was utterly devastated when David announced he was leaving, and I have to admit I've been quite hostile to the idea of Matt Smith as the Doctor, however I did watch it last night, and I really enjoyed it. I wasn't sure if it was just Stephen Moffatt's amazing writing, but Matt Smith seemed to settle into the role really well, and was really funny in parts, which was lovely to see. I like the Amy Pond character, Karen Gillan seems to be a really skilled actor, so all in all this should be a good series!!

I second Mandy too - looking forward to seeing the River Song character develop!!:goodvibes

Don't think I'll ever love him like I did David, but I still can't wait for next week!!!:thumbsup2

I have never been a big fan, but did watch a few of the last series purely because I thought the character was portrayed brilliantly.
I watched last night and was surprised to find that I actually enjoyed it and am looking forward to next weeks now. I thought Matt Smith was funny, quirky, threatening and promises to deliver - everything that I enjoyed when David Tennant was in the role.
And for the record the fact I enjoyed it so much had nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that Amy spent a large amount of time in a very short police womans costume :rolleyes1

I loved it too!

I was a bit 'nervous' (relatively speaking) just as I always am when there's a new Doctor because you can't help but get a bit fond of each one and there were some big shoes to fill this time. However I've already taken to Matt Smith a lot quicker than I did David Tennant who took me a good few episodes to get comfy with.

As long as they don't come along and make a complete hash of next weeks follow up (unlikely as Steve Moffatt writes next weeks episode too) then I think I'm really going to enjoy this new incarnation :)

I felt exactly the same ~ although I was really looking forward to it I was quite apprehensive but thought Matt Smith pulled it off really well. :thumbsup2

Roll on next week :woohoo: I can't wait until we meet those scary weeping angels again! :scared1:

Did she? I didn't really notice. :Pinocchio nose: ;) :rolleyes1

I was a bit worried that Matt Smith was just going to just do an impression of David Tennant, but it looks like he is actually going to bring a new take on the Doctor :)
I enjoyed this first episode very much, and look forward to the rest of the series! :goodvibes
Also, the music was fab as always :thumbsup2

So ......... two months on .......... what are your opinions now?

I like Matt as the Doctor ~ David Tennant was always going to be an extremely hard act to follow but I think he's doing fine. It's a shame I can't say the same for Amy ~ I feel I don't know anymore about her than I did in the first episode. I felt I got to know the Doctor's other companions pretty well ~ I loved both Donna and Martha and, although I found Rose an irritating character, I could still empathise with her.

I just feel there's no passion or emotion coming across in this series and am becoming increasingly disillusioned with it ~ such a shame as I thought the opening episode held such promise. :sad2:

I think Mr Smith is making a good doctor. I still think he looks a bit like a potato though. Albeit, a rather cute potato...

I quite enjoyed tonight's episode. Was a bit different I thought.

But Elaine, I completely agree with you - I thought that I saw more passion in Van Gogh tonight than I had seen in the rest of the series!

Its not happening for me Im afriad, I thought I would be the same with David Tennant after Christopher Ecclestone as he is still my favorite, however after one or two episodes he fitted in lovely, Matt Smith for me is not, I cant put my finger on why, I dont know if Im missing something in the show that Russel T Davies brought to it, or if Im just not taking to the new doctor, but so far Im struggling to stay with it:confused3

I'm loving Matt Smith. Karen Gillan less so. She's ok and I don't dislike her or anything but I'm just not quite warming to her as I thought I'd be at this point in the series. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's almost as if she doesn't seem very relaxed and at ease enough.

That said I thought she was way better yesterday and I really enjoyed the episode - I admit to getting a little teary eyed at the end!

I'm not keen on Matt Smith, just seems too immature as the Doctor. Been looking back at the Early Ecclestone ones and they were streets better.

I'm preferring Matt Smith as the Doctor - I felt that David Tennant was hamming things up rather a lot towards the end of his stint on the show.

However, after a great start, I'm finding the story lines rather weak on content. (I haven't seen last night's yet.)

:goodvibes I really like Amy Pond.
I liked Rose best of the new bunch of companions so far and have the same feeling about Amy. She seems to fit as a Dr's companion . I was less impressed with them bringing along Rory though so I preferred last night's episode.

Matt is getting there for me. I think I was the same with David Tennant when he took over and I ended up loving him :lovestruc

Still keeping me tuned in ....

So I'm the only person who still likes this series then?
I've always loved the '05- onwards Doctor Who and personally, I think Matt Smith is better than David Tennant and Christopher Eccelston.

Sadly I lost interest after 4 or 5 episodes. Is it still on ? I've been away for the last couple of weeks

I'm still enjoying the show. It has had some weak endings but on the whole an enjoyable series.

I'm finding the finale really good - but maybe because so far it is a cliff hanger.
