I bought one of these today (the basic one) at BRU. I'm not sure if I'm nuts about it. I have a couple of Hotsling pouches and three Sutemi-style carriers. The pouch is great for quick in and out, but since they're non-adjustable I thought this might be the answer for DH and I to both use on our upcoming trip (he'll wear the Sutemi style ones, but they're much more involved to get on and off). I guess I'll wait until he gets home to see what he thinks. I think my big thing is that I've become accustomed to the softness and simplicity of basic fabric carriers that don't have lots of webbing and buckles....plus I'm very petite, so I have all of these webbing strap tails flying all over the place with this thing. If DH likes it and we keep it I think I'll be shortening the straps to just long enough for him.

Anyway, our local Babie R Us carries both versions of this carrier.

I am looking at one of these too. I have an ergo and a ring sling, but I hate the ring sling because I can't get it adjusted right and there seems to be acres of fabric and it feels really conspicous.

The Ergo is fantastic, but it is not a quick on / off, it's a much slower process - great for long walks, I can carry Molly over an hour in it no problem, but no ideal for up and down.

Anyway the hip hammock looks brilliant for quick ups and downs, like in lines and onto rides. We won't wait in long lines anyway, so I wouldn't be holding her for an hour or anything like that.

if you Google for Hip Hammock, you can find 2 versions - Playtex have taken over the name and made it more 'formal' looking, but the orginal version is still available until stocks run out - it is softer and more casual looking and reminds me more of sling -

I have ordered one of the older style (since that was all I could get over here in the UK) - it's not here yet, but I have high hopes for it.

Walmart had a hip carrier that just provided a place to sit--no straps around child or anything.

I really couldn't see how that would be much help??? Or is this how others are made also?

these also have a shoulder strap, but I have used a Hippychick which is basically just a seat and no straps - it is certainly better than nothing but I couldn't use it for very long.
