Hi,
My nephews have PS2 and we were thinking of getting them the screen for a gift...we do not own this system and I have no idea if the video screen works well, how the sound is , does it actually work well in the car or is it a hassle to hook up etc., I don't know if we should go this route or gift cards to a store where they can choose or put $ towards a portable DVD player....any helpers out there?
TIA,

Pam

They have a special screen? I didn't know that. How expensive is it?

It runs about $130, and since we would have it be for all 3 nephews I figured it's not TOO bad. It is to replace the need for a t.v. in the car, and since PS2 plays DVD's, I thought it would be cool for them to choose either games or movies, but that is when I began to wonder about sound quality. It is hard enough to hear in a moving vehicle. I guess they could use headphones, but there are 3 and I don't even know if it is equipped for headphones, car adapter, battery etc., I guess I'd better do my homework!

I'd like to hear the answer to this question myself :)

We got one this summer for the drive to Florida. We got the screen and a power adapter so we could use it in the car. DS hooked it up and used the headphones. DH says there are 2 jacks. DS could play video games or watch DVD's. We didn't hear a peep out of him for 20 hours. ;) I remember he had to save his game before we stopped the car. We thought it was a great investment. :)

Thank you for the helpful replies....so the picture quality is pretty good? I can't believe the kids can see games on a little 5" screen. I know the gameboys are even smaller but they can hold those right up as close as they need them. Since there are 3 boys and 2 jacks, it may be a problem. How was the sound thru the speakers? Could it be heard over car driving noise? Do you get much use out of it besides the car? It is so helpful to hear from someone who actually uses this item than just the item descriptions. It looks like it just clips onto the top of the PS2 system, but I think they have the system that it verticle....I need to find out if you can hook the screen to that one as well.
Keep the help coming....you guys are great!
Pam

The picture quality is good, but it is a smallish screen. It's hard to read the print on the games sometimes. The sound is fine, especially with headphones. The 2 jacks could be a problem but I imagine those things come up often with 3 kids. If you don't use the headphones, you will have to turn it up louder. It could annoy or distract the driver.

The PS2 sets in a vertical stand normally. You can take it out and place it horizontally. The screen just clips on top.

How much you use it around the house would depend on how many tvs are in the house. You could take it outside or into rooms without a tv. You can also take it to hotels or anywhere there will be an outlet. My ds took it to my dd's dance competition and stayed in the hotel lobby and played while we watched the competition.
