I don't know if I mentioned it here, but I had my purse stolen recently. I made a police report, and the very nice officer who took my report admitted that there would probably not be much they could do for me.
So I've been trying to play detective myself. With the help of my bank and credit card companies, I've found every place where the thief used or attempted to use my cards. Dates, times, addresses. I even spoke to the manager of one 7-11 where my card was used, and he said he'd pull the security tape from that night for me!
So I gave all this info to the police, and they were just "okay, thanks lady" in the most bored tone of voice. I asked what would happen next and the officer just said they would review all the information when they got to it.
Is it too much to ask them to follow up on this? I know it probably seems like a petty crime in the big scheme of things, but a crime is a crime, and would it really be such an inconvenience to drive over to a 7-11 three miles from my house and look at this stupid tape? The guy that robbed me as probably stolen from other people.

I am sure the police departments have a lot more to worry about than your stolen purse, but for goodness sake, it wouldn't take that much time to take a look at the tape. Heck, it could lead them to an even bigger fish.
