We will be hosting our family reunion type party / picnic. Several friends will be here too. We're talking about 60 people.

I will have wine (and beer with red solo cups ;) ) but don't want to get out my good wine glasses -- plus I only have 12 of them :)

So I've seen the cheap plastic glasses with the little stem, but is there anything else I could buy in big quantities?

Why don't you try hitting up thrift stores in your area? They usually have a lot of glassware marked down cheap. Who cares if it doesn't match, sometimes it's cute to have a big mishmash of different styles. Then they'd be real but more than likely completely affordable, then if you don't want a big collection tell your guests if they like their glass they're more than welcome to take it home.

I don't know if you have a Christmas Tree shop near you but they normally have bright plastic stem ware for pretty cheap. 3 bucks for 6 I think. I love mine!

Party city has plastic wine glasses in packs of 20 for $9.99. Or check out a party rental place in your area. We have one that rents tents, table linens, dishes, etc. for large events. My local place rents wine glasses for 55 cents each, although then you'd have to worry about them breaking, washing, returning, etc.

I would check a party supply place, Oriental trading, A rest. Supply Co. I know here in Midweat we have one called Gordon food service.

We have large gatherings often. In fact, we just had a BBQ for over 50 people on July 4th. For wine we use the 9 ounce clear plastic cups. You can get them at SAMs for cheap.(come in packs of 200). They work great. In the past we have used the plastic wine glasses and found that they break apart very easy - the stems break off etc. Good luck with your gathering.

One other thing to think about...sometimes they come in separate parts and you have to put the base on the stem/bowl part. Seems like no big deal but having done it, it's a PITA!!!!! Plus once put together they don't stack and take up table space. Would highly recommend smaller clear plastic cups, much easier to manage.

If it's a picnic go with the smaller clear glasses as in the above post. Sam's Club and Gordons around the east coast, Costco is like Sam's. Any place that sells in bulk.

I like my wine in a really nice glass! HOWEVER...with that many people and being outside, I would go with the small clear cups. We were at a New Years eve party this year and the hostess did the cheap plastic wine type glasses for the kids to toast with their sparkling juice. They were pretty bad. Most broke or were spilled before the toast! Since you are doing the solo cups for beers, I think the plastic for wine is just fine.

Thanks all! You're right; the smaller, clear glasses will be just fine. As y'all said, it IS a picnic, right?! :thumbsup2
